Echoes of films like Carrie and the Exorcist come to mind, when reading this book about a fostered girl, who seems possessed by some unknown evil , delivering death and destruction to those unfortunate enough to encounter her. Gory horror offering, with different characters well woven together into the storyline. It was okay, could have done with some editing.

I am becoming quite a fan of Willow Rose, I love horror books and this one does not disappoint. It is very creepy, gruesome in parts and not for the faint hearted. I hardly, if ever write reviews, but I enjoyed this book, however I now need to know what happened to Edwina next. I just hope she is living nowhere near me

To read this you need to temporarily suspend your knowledge of the actual known effects of radiation exposure. Having done that you can immerse yourself in the world of Edwina who is either a neglected damaged child in need of love and care or a hideous demon who leaves a trail of death and destuction everywhere she goes, or maybe a bit of both - you decide. This really is not for the faint hearted but it is very good and very well written.

When I first started reading this book, it didn't take long for me to become hooked. The story starts pretty much straight away, with Edwina's social worker telling Marie-Therese that there have been 'problems' with previous foster carers, but not elaborating - this instantly made me want to read more. Marie-Therese takes the quiet little girl home with her, and then the 'incidents' start. Their neighbour becomes ill with a mystery disease, and is haunted by thoughts of the little girl next door - once he's away from her, he begins to improve - but Edwina isn't finished with the family yet....
Marie-Therese soon realises that this child has more than the usual ones of a child in care, and her hated religious upbringing soon has her praying and making the sign of the cross when she's near Edwina - before long, she's begging the priest to help her.
Meanwhile, we learn about the Marie-Therese's other foster daughter, and the new neighbours - but very little about Edwina herself. These stories about the other characters all combine and set up a pretty scary (and a bit gruesome) conclusion.
But that is where, for me, the story collapsed and failed totally to satisfy me. Willow Rose's style of writing had made me actually feel for her characters, even Edwina - I wanted her demons to be exorcised, for her to be able to be a happy little girl. Marie-Therese had gone from being a pretty odious woman who cared more about money than the children in her care to someone who'd found her maternal side, and wanted to make amends for her previous dismissive treatment of them, especially Ida, who is another little girl that I actually cared about, after learning of her difficult start in life.
I was on edge, I was a little repulsed and quite a bit jittery - and then (**SPOILER**) a magic unicorn comes in, saves the day - and ruins the story. Yes, this unicorn does tie in with some of the things we've previously learnt, but it was such a weak ending, as if Willow Rose just couldn't be bothered anymore. A huge disappointment after an enjoyable read.

Well, what can I say about this book? It is one of the best stories I have ever read, so much in the same league as Stephen King, James Herbert, and Dean Koontz.
A little girl is in care, and they are looking for a foster home for her, the trouble is nobody wants her. She doesn't talk or engage with her peers, she has trouble, injury and death surrounding her wherever she is placed.
A woman Marie Therese agrees to foster her, she already ha s two foster children and another one won't make much difference, indeed, she is only doing it for the money. She treats her foster children with indifference, the eldest child , thirteen year old girl, does every thing around the house , cooks cleans and looks after the a little boy, also a foster child. Enter Edwina, and, the horror begins!!!
    A brilliant read.
