A contemporary romance.

Rebecca Miller is a gifted veterinarian with an extraordinary understanding of animal behavior. She is leading a fulfilling life as the owner and operator of the Animal Friends Veterinary Clinic. Ever since her 30th birthday, her mother has made it her mission to help Rebecca find a man, get married, and give her grandchildren. But Rebecca doesn’t see the need for a man in her life. She has her dog, Captain, and that’s all the companionship she needs. However, her world changes the day she literally runs into Derrick Peterson, a gorgeously handsome ER doctor.

Derrick’s experiences with women have taught him that they are vain, silly, and untrustworthy. He keeps his relationships with them brief and superficial. However, he finds himself being irresistibly drawn to Rebecca. She’s smart, witty, compassionate, and very different from the women he usually encounters. Will Rebecca be the one to break down the wall he’s spent a lifetime building around his heart?

Fairly enjoyed this book. Liked the story and characters but it seemed a bit rushed at times. There were pages of..... 'then they had dinner.....then they had a chat....then they went to bed......then they had such and such for breakfast.....then he drove her to work......' Those bits were a bit tedious and not well written but overall I enjoyed the storyline.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tierisch gut
Reviewed in Germany on 27 November 2013

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute Story with a Dog
Reviewed in the United States on 6 May 2016
A very cute story about a veterinarian who loves everything about her life except she just turned thirty and she hasn't met her perfect match. Her mother is worried, but Rebecca Miller feels her life is full. Her mother reminds her, dogs aren't men. Suddenly there seems to be three attractive men in her life. One is Mitch, a handsome, friendly policeman. She loves him like a brother. Two is Derrick, an ER doctor. Rebecca is intensely attracted to him but just can't figure him out. Three is Brian, a contractor working on her house and romancing her on the side. She is missing the strong attraction that she has for Derrick but she does have feelings for him. Meanwhile there is some trouble at work. Her receptionist has an accident and the replacement has an abusive boyfriend, who threatens Rebecca. There is a terrible betrayal on the romantic front and an almost fatal attack.. But we do get a happy ending.

There was definitely some danger and some scary things going on here. There was some romance and an unexpected lie, and many animals sprinkled in the mix. Add in three suitors, a girl's basketball team, friends with advice, some injuries, some arrests, and a wedding and you have exactly what was needed for a great story.

Get the book! I think you'll love it. I did.

    2.0 out of 5 stars So-so
Reviewed in Italy on 14 August 2013
This is half/half. The interactions with the animals are fine and nicely written - if you overlook the slightly creepy obsession with 'neutering' that is. OTOH, human interactions sound like straight from a mix of Say Yes to the Dress, ER (as in, Dr Greene vs Dr Ross, one-on-one) and the next cop serial. Too much TV-watching, or is this how people really relate in the place the story is located?
Anyhow, nothing a brave reader could not face, BUT for the LOT of pages where otherwise perfectly sensible women mutate into a chicken coop, and become obsessed with dresses, prospective husband material, gushing, meddling, prodding, primping and - well, you know the drill. Which sounds a bit strange, compared to the determination with taking all the fun from every single pet in town!
