In the bestselling tradition of Rosamund Pilcher, a gloriously romantic novel of secrets and history, from the author of the highly popular THE CORNISH HOUSE.

'A heart-tugging story of loss and recovery' WOMAN AND HOME

Running out on your wedding day never goes down well. When the pressure of her forthcoming marriage becomes too much, Jude bolts from the church, leaving a good man at the altar, her mother in a fury, and the guests with enough gossip to last a year.

Guilty and ashamed, Jude flees to Pengarrock, a crumbling cliff-top mansion in Cornwall, where she takes a job cataloguing the Trevillion family's extensive library. The house is a welcome escape for Jude, full of history and secrets, but when its new owner arrives, it's clear that Pengarrock is not beloved by everyone.

As Jude falls under the spell of the house, she learns of a family riddle stemming from a terrible tragedy centuries before, hinting at a lost treasure. And when Pengarrock is put up for sale, it seems that time is running out for the house and for Jude.

The beginning seemed a bit strange, but the more I thought about it, the more I thought "Good for you, girl!", but as it went on, the story became increasingly interesting, and I found it really difficult to put down. I kept on making myself stop reading and go and do something else so that I made it last. The ending might have been predictable, but who wants an unsatisfactory ending? Jude's increasing love of Cornwall is very well portrayed, as is the seemingly hard attitude of Tristan. Jude's constant attempts to get him see Pengarrock for what it really was, and to get him to realise that all his conceptions about his parents had been wrong, give the story a reality. You feel sorry for her jilted finacé, but sorry for her because he still thinks he can get her back and cannot understand why she decided she couldn't marry him (dare I say, "Typical man" !! - forgive me if you don't like that comment.) I finally sat up way beyond bedtime to finish it because I couldn't bear to wait until this morning to find out what happened.

This is the second book I have read by this author and although I didn't think it was as good as The Cornish House it is good escapism and ideal holiday read. Other reviewers have mentioned that the ending was disappointing but being the type of book it is, you could see how it was going to end, so how else was the author to finish the story really?!

Living in Cornwall I love the references to the area and the descriptions of places and will therefore read the other books by her.

    A Cornish affair.
I have read both books published by Liz Fenwick and really enjoyed both. Liz takes you back to childhood haunts and wraps the feel good factor around you. Jude is strong character who having run from the church on her wedding day realising that the marriage was about everyone else's feelings and not her own. With bother her parent's anger eating away at her, she takes off for England and ends up in Cornwall, where she is to work for Petroc Trevillion, the owner of Pengarrock, organising and cataloguing his research work and papers. In her bid to save Pengarrock from the hands of his son Tristan who following his father's death needs to sell it in order to meet growing debts. Jude reveals the clues one by one that lead to the discovery of the famous sapphire, lost for many years and the only financial way to save the doomed house. How Jude kept her hands of Tristan till almost the end of the book I don't know but it made me want to keep reading to see if she would finally get her man. There are some great characters in the book not least Barbara who asked the questions that others shied away from. She was brilliantly naughty. A Cornish affair was a good holiday read, there was enough intrigue to keep me swiping my Kindle screen. I look forward to the next book by this author.

I really enjoyed this book, it was just my 'cup of tea'. It was like a grown up version of an Enid Blyton book called The Treasure Hunters, that I loved as a young girl.
The mixture of the Cornish setting, the promise of finding lost treasure and the growing love story that threaded through it was just the type of thing that I love to read for maximum 'me' time. I have read and enjoyed The Cornish House, but have to say that I think Liz did a much better job of A Cornish Affair.
I would have preferred the romantic scenes to have been expanded on a bit, but there was enough to keep the tension mounting.
Can't wait to read Liz's next book!

I enjoyed reading this. Liz sets the scene so well. I felt that quite a lot of research must have been done to be able to write this book. Reminded me very much of Poliakoff's 'Shooting the Past'. I did feel that the ending was rather predictable but I wouldn't have liked it to have been different! The characters are believable and one can visualise the settings so well. If you love Cornwall and enjoy a story with some depth then this is the book for you.

A page turner. A story of what it means to truly love someone. It's about passion and trusting your instincts. Set in a most ideal location it speaks to anyone who knows what it's like to be inspired by nature and untold history.

It started off ok but then got a bit boring. The storyline wasn't very remarkable, as for the ending. Still,it was a light hearted read.
