I loved this book from page 1. The concept is quite original, at least to me and I read a lot, and the story flows very well. It can be a little pompous at times, in terms of one human making the difference between good and evil, but this can be forgiven due to the detail and energy that the author creates.

Some aspects of the story line can be a little predictable, but in this genre it can be hard to lead the reader through the science and the various races, without giving things away that you’ll have to rely on to keep the story flowing later on.

I found it to be very enjoyable and hard to put down. Give it a go, you wont be disappointed.

A bit derivative but a fun read anyway. Just had to know what happened next. The author could use an editor though as some of the spelling and punctuation is poor.

The concept of humans being 'seeded' on Earth by an ancient, more advanced civilisation was quite interesting (although not original) and I might have been tempted to read more installments but the frequent spelling errors/incorrect words used was more than a little irritating. All the way through 'were' has been used for 'where', 'moral' for 'morale', 'center' for 'centre', 'to' instead of 'too' amongst others. None of which would show up with a spellchecker but all leap out when the story is read! At first I put it down to typos but the further I got into the book I became convinced that the consistency of the errors throughout (I don't think I ever saw the word 'where' spelt correctly in the entire book) meant that the author (and any proofreaders) just didn't have a high enough standard of English. I won't be reading any more in the series.

Well just finished reading and must say I was pleasantly surprised by this book, strong story and the plot and back history develops well through the book. I am curious to see how this plot develops and wether or not it will develop into a saga. I must say on the whole I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to the next one.

I enjoy well written sci-fi that is different, has some originality. I have to say that I enjoyed this book very much and rate it highly. Then characters have flaws and good points so you can love some and hate the others. If you enjoy a good read then please take the time to enjoy this.

I enjoyed reading this story, and found myself really wondering where the author is going to go with revealing more about the causes of the war.

Brilliant! Earth destroyed by aliens but one man survives to destroy an ancient enemy. Messages from the past hidden in DNA.
    Can't wait for part two.

Loved this book and couldn't put it down. I'm always excited when I can find a new sci-fi/fantasy author who can take those genres in a new direction. I enjoyed the characters, the history and plot he came up with. It's a storyline with a history and set- up I've never read anything like before and his range of characters and "real life" Pop culture references kept me entertained from the start. I can't wait for Book 2.

4.0 out of 5 stars very good story....but

Very good plot, good story, great characters, lots of action. There are too many spelling and context errors to give this one and the others in the series 5 stars. Needs better editing or the author needs a remedial English grammar class...or his editors do.

Loved this book...looked forward to reading it when I was interrupted by a need to hit the sack (had to get up early), so I put this one in the "red eyes" category...happens when you want to stay up reading. Excellent characterization, great plot...making humans "the ancient" "the precursors" etc that so many other books use to describe the first tech savvy races. There are some typos, but instead of whining about that, I'm just grateful not to have to pay the extra $15 for an editor and publisher. Way to go Eric! Looking forward to the next one in your series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good story, poor writing
Reviewed in the United States on 29 September 2013
I really wish I could rate this story higher. The story itself is very cool being a mishmash of standard sci-fi tropes rearranged in a very unique way. There was a lot right with this book, but there was more wrong than I could stand and it pissed me off. The characters are interesting although many are not very fleshed out. The protagonist is irritating. Stubborn, foolish, irrational, illogical, and at times dumb as a bag of hammers. The biggest problem with the writing is endlessly talking about nothing that matters, to pages of talking about doing something and then doing something else. For all the planning going on you would think the reader would have a clue whats was going to happen. Nope, its a secret, a surprise, and its irritatingly stupid. The Captains Log and references to movies was over done and and thankfully reduced or gone from the 2nd book.

Ok, by now you may have the impression I hatted this book, I didn't, but it did piss me off. It could have been soooo much better. For a buck it's a good value, but it will test your metal to get through it. The story plot is great stuff, the witting gets in its way though.

I did buy and read the sequel. It's better but still has issues. Incremental improvement I guess.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well put together story
Reviewed in the United States on 3 August 2015
I started reading this thinking all no not another teen fantasy, but it surprised me the only problem I have is that this is a 19-year-old boy who was acting as though he is 40. He has a relationship with an alien who helped conceive him is just kind of like he's having sex with his mother kind of icky. The rest of the story line is good and it surprised me to actually look forward to the next book . Hopefully the storyline will develop away from this sick relationship. It would help the storyline if it was explained how some of these alterations to him perhaps matured him so it helps to explain his actions.
