    After reading the first 3 books of the Descent Series as a freebie on kindle and finding out that I enjoyed them so much I read them one after the other within a few days, I just had to get the rest of the series. These are the first urban fantasy books I have read and I can't believe what I have been missing. The books are so addictive and as I read them straight away one after the other each book just blurred together into one big book, which is why I have done the same review for the last 4 books of the Descent Series. All I can say is that S.M Reine is an amazing author and each book is fantastic, the stories are just brilliant and the characters are great, especially Elise. I will definitely be reading more of her books.

    I have spent the last 7 weeks reading this entire series and have to say it is the best most complete and compelling series of books I have ever read. From the 1st page your hooked and it becomes an obsession to find out what happens next, but it does not end with this series the books roll seamlessly into the ascension series which introduce characters from the other SM Reine books. These characters just meld straight in and are so fascinating that I now have the Cain series and the moon series to catch up on. This series is a must for anyone who likes this genre of books. Without doubt the best author out there, and will not disappoint.

    I have criticized a previous book (for the introduction of smoking to Elise's character) and I make no apologies for that, however I can safely say this must be the best book so far. It's not that the writer has or suffers from that habit that so many do of leaving loads of open ends to then be explained deliberately so because there are more books comming, she does NOT do this, but OMG the amount of subtle little things that are made clear which through her clever writing you would not notice to be unexplained in a previous book is quite astounding. This is the book that explains everything (well almost everything) and it sets the stage for what must be a fantastic final book. I will comment on the last book once, I have read it, but for now, I need to rush out and get it.

    This is not my usual genra. Received by mistake was originally for hubby. I have read all the books in sequence & have thourally enjoyed them all. I was so sad to be nearing the end of Defying Fate as I knew it was the last book in the series. I started to feel upset that Elise, James , Malcolm & Nathaniel would no longer be part of my daily reading life & it was regret that I finished the book knowing they would be no more. But wait I hear you say, there is another book on it's way.....Yipee-I-Aye!!! This is one lucky Fan.

    I usually read a series when I can read it all together back to back because I'm not very patient. I can't believe I have to wait for the next book. With all that being said, I'd still HAPPILY would have spent the last 6 days reading this series because it is excellent! I don't even think the next book in this series will end it because there are so many great paths it can explore further. The writing style and world Reine created blows my mind with its creativity, especially as a writer myself. The story lines are as riveting as the characters' mind blowing depths. It's truly amazing to see what a brilliant mind can imagine. I found myself in awe of this writer and humbled.

    The series, I believe must be started at the beginning. In no way do I want to over share here and blow the experience for anyone who reads it so while I'm sorry I'm vague I think you'll agree when you read the series. I'd strongly suggest that you don't read any reviews that delve to deeply into specifics in the storyline. It would hurt the brilliance that you are experiencing as you can't wait to turn the next page. With that being said ..

    The main characters Elise and James are both broken in many ways but complete each other in others that developed beautifully. So many motivations and secrets are revealed in this book, and they are shocking. For me, they provoked so many conflicting emotions within. I was sad for them both but hopeful that it can still work out because you can't count either one of these two out. I was mad at one but my heart broke in sympathy at the same time. I rooted for people I didn't expect and hated people I thought I wouldn't. I loved the brilliant supporting people of the story that were so unexpected. Elise is strong, independent, loyal, a force of nature with a spine of steal. She is also emotionally broken by an exceptionally hard life. James' love and constant companionship while strengthening her maybe the one thing that has the power to destroy her. James' love and will may also be the only thing that saves them both from a fate set for them long before either was ever born.

    As I said before, what I loved most was how unexpected this whole new world Reine created is. I will dream about it because the creation was so real that I was immersed. Even with all the screwed upness of that world I would love to visit, and CAN NOT WAIT until Reine brings it back again. I may actually re-read the series, which is something I have NEVER done! HUNDREDS OF BOOKS ON MY KINDLE AND NEVER ONCE HAVE I REREAD BEFORE NOW! I'm just not ready to leave Elise and James yet. Additionally, I'm sure between the unbelievable amount of depth and my need to find out what happened next, I'm sure I'd see even more with a reread. Have fun reading this series, I'm smiling for the experience your getting ready to have.

Now the story gallops along. This is a real page turner. But be prepared: it ends in a cliff-hanger (I wasn't prepared. I thought this would be the end of one story arc).
