The Space Between: A Supernatural Romantic Fantasy (The Book of Phoenix 1) Kindle Edition
Jeric has traveled the world in search of a piece of his past for over a year, only to reach a dead-end in Georgia … in the exact town where the beautiful dancer from Italy lives. He’s drawn to her like a moth to a flame, but his life as a loner in his silent world allows no room for girlfriends, and he tries to leave her. Except outside forces won’t let him.
When the same “tattoos” suddenly appear on their arms and the book’s lock falls open, Leni and Jeric realize there’s more between them than physical fascination. They must embark on a journey together to discover their connection to each other and their ties to the Book of Phoenix. And they must figure it all out fast. Shadowy forms that are more monsters than men are closing in, while their own existences are crumbling around them.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 April 2013Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseIm stuck between giving this 4 or 5 stars - I wish Amazon did half stars! but then again, I give it 4.5 stars, and then Jeric is just so...... so that will bump it up to 5 stars for me!
If you love the Soul Savers series, you will love this. The story starts with Leni finishing up a dance tour in Italy, when she bumps into Jeric and gets strange a feeling that they have a connection. They part ways at the airport and Leni returns home to find her Uncle (who she has been living with) has completely disapeared, the house is empty and there is no trace of his or her existence. The only thing that is in the house is a book that is locked, with no way to open it.
She heads to a motel, where she bumps into Jeric again, and thus begins their adventure. Jeric is also discovering that his life is being wiped out, and he joins with Leni to discover what has happened to his Grandmother and her Uncle.
When they eventually manage to open the strange book, they discover a tale that sounds similar to what they are experiencing, and they must find out the answers before its too late.
I did love this book, however it took some getting in to with the differing POV's. I was just getting used to switching between Leni and Jeric and then I was totally thrown when Jacey and Micha were intoduced into the mix too. I didnt see the connection/twist coming either.
Great book yet again Kristie Cook, roll on book 2. and of course, still desperately waiting my next Tristan and Soul Savers fix!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 April 2013Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseEnjoyed this book, there was alot of twist and turns that made this book thrilling but at time it did get a little confusing to who's story you was reading and all thier past's would merger in my head but still enjoyed it a whole lot.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 October 2013Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseHaving read Kristie Cooks Soul Savers series I thought I would buy this while waiting for her next SS instalment and I was not disappointed.
The plot is well thought out with lots of twists and turns. It moves at a steady pace giving time to get to know the characters whilst rolling along with the story. Lots of books tend to move too slowly but not this one. The story is told through the eyes of all of the main characters, strengthening the bond that a reader often feels toward the main people they are reading about. The more I read the more I really rooted for them.
What's fabulous about this book is that both reader and character are on a voyage of discovery to figure out what is going on. This in itself is clever writing. This book is a great first installment setting the pace and scene for a series sure to be as popular as Soul Savers. Well done Kristie!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 May 2013Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseI loved the Soul Savers books so bought this expecting another good book.
I loved the first few chapters and was engrossed in Leni and her life and couldn't wait to find out what happened.
For me the changing of characters and times was too much for my brain to cope with. Every time the year changed I had to make a conscious effort to remind myself whose uncle was who, who had what friend , who did the dog belong to ????? I would just get into the change in characters and situations and it would change again .
Maybe it is my aging brain that couldn't cope and the fact that I read late at night in bed, the idea was good but I couldn't rate it more than okay, which is a shame really because I love the way Kristie writes.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 April 2013Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseI've always wanted to go to Italy. Kristie Cook took me there and made me feel as if I had been there. On cobbled roads and in the theater where Leni Drago fulfills her ambition as a dancer, having a final farewell drink with her colleagues and heading off to meet up with her Uncle back in Georgia. On her return though Uncle Theo was nowhere to be seen and the house was empty except for one thing - a journal that can't be opened. I traveled with Leni on more than the train.
Leni is one of the reasons I loved this book, because her feelings are so raw and clear and true. Not only does she make me see the things the way she sees, she makes me feel the things she feels. There's a lot more going on than just a missing Uncle and an unopened journal, and Leni starts to unravel a whole new world. A man called Jeric Winters is looking to complete his puzzle. Very few people have ever been close to Jeric; he is a "hit-it-and-quit-it-type, struggling for people to understand him. He has gotten used to his own company. The mystery about Jeric Winters is another of the reasons I wanted to keep turning the pages.
Jacey is an 1980's kind of girl and is in the process of sorting out a derelict building that had been left to her. While Jacey is trying to determine what to do with this old rundown building. Micah turns up, offering to help. One of my favourite quotes from this section is "Ah, smart-ass, ex-punk girl makes tough marine a little soft?". You just can't help but love Jacey and Micah.
The Space Between is filled with interesting characters; they make it all seem just as real as the people in your own hometown. One I found really interesting was Bex; she is described as a heavy punk, hot pink hair and heavy makeup. Her character had me engrossed.
Jacey, Micah and Bex are all fascinating, but I have to say Jeric stands out for me the most. You get the idea that Jeric is a bit of a player with no feelings which might change when he follows his "pull". This has to be one of a few books that have me making facial expressions with quotes and just the book really. I am impressed and love the fact that some of the characters are in it for only a short amount of time, yet I feel I know all of them and they are described very well and I have an image of all of them. I have laughed at the words humongous and befuddled, I don't know why but they make me laugh and in the context used it is hilarious.
This book had me addicted from start to finish and only one of a few books I have read twice. I am looking forward to the next part of The Book of Phoenix by Kristie Cook!!!
My favourite quotes from The Space Between:
"What an ass "Alberto muttered.
" Rude, yes, but I don't know if I'd go that far."
"No, I mean what an ass that man has."
AND
"He's straighter than a nun's ruler and can't take his eyes off you."
I give The Space Between 5 stars! Highly recommended!!

5.0 out of 5 stars tattooes & nipple piercings, need I say more Lol ;)
Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase'Twin Flames: A deeper connection than soul mates. While soul mates are two souls made for each other, Twin Flames are two halves of a single soul that has been divided. The halves pull to each other until they are finally reunited. When they are once again bound to each other, they are stronger than the sum if their parts.'
That was flippin' amazing. Awesomesauce with a huge side of OH HELL YEAH!! This is the first book I have read from this author, but this one definitely makes me wanna check out her soulsavers series, she is just fantastic, LOVED IT!!
When you read the blurb it does hint to a paranormal side of this book, but you have no idea what you're in for. In a genre that has been done & re-done to death, it's always nice to come across one that is unique, a story all it's own. This. Is. It!!
'The word "dyad" echoed from deep within me, as if my soul itself had whispered it. I didn't even know what the word meant.
But I did know one thing for certain.
Before last night, I'd never seen this guy in my life -how could I ever forget that face?- but in some inexplicable way, I knew him. My soul knew him.'
It is so very hard to discuss much about the story without killing it for you & that would just be cruel, you really need to live it and watch everything unfold firsthand. Intense, thrilling, surprising, complex & sexy only starts to describe it. There are actually two couples we follow through this adventure -Jeric & Leni, Micah & Jacey- that's right, four POV's!! But it's not at all confusing, one story feeds off the other, one acts as a guiding light of sorts leading the way but each uniquely their own. You will grow to love all four people in their own ways.
Leni: oh this poor misguided, insecure girl with a wild steak deeply hidden just begs to be hugged & desperately needs to figure who she is as an individual & free her inner wild-child.
Jeric: oh my sweet lord, tattoos & nipple piercings....he had my full attention from that point on Lol. But he also has a tragic past that have left both emotional & physical scars. And sadly, he can be kind of a douche, pulls some really dumba** moves, broke my heard a few times, but there is an incredibly sweet and vulnerable side to him as well.
"You saved my life. Thank you."
"It's what I do. I can't lose you, Leni. I know I don't deserve you. God, do I know it. But I need you. You're the Coke to my Jack."
"What?"
"For eight years, life's been one bitter bottle of whiskey after another. One burning shot after shot. But then you come along. Life's still harsh, but you make it sweeter. Easier to swallow."
Jacey: this girl was a hott mess, but she totally cracked me up. Sweet & feisty, totally punk-rock, loved her.
and Micah: ex-Marine (again, how hott are these guys?!) Protective, sexy & just down-right cute, if not a little hot headed at times.
"I don't get it either, but I love you too, Jacey. I'm not afraid to say it, and I'm not going to keel over and die because I do. Please don't fight it. Please don't fight us. We need to be together. You're all I have, too, you know. We're all either of us has. And if loving you does by some f***ed-up chance kill me, I'm okay with it. I couldn't die a better way, Jace."
And once you learn their connection to each other, whew...will not see it coming. This whole thing is one giant action-packed thrill ride full of surprises, hott & feisty characters, and a whole lot of suspense. Cannot wait to see where this series goes from here. I'm throwing one last quote in, just cause it was funny as hell & by the way, I'm totally listening to 'Nine Inch Nails'while I write this ;) that song will never be the same Lol
'guys worshiped the cootchie. They talked about it frequently and thought about it even more. They wanted to see it, touch it, taste it, master it. As if once they came out on the day they were born, all they could think about was how to get back in. They may take you out, treat you like a princess and maybe even really care about you, but as soon as you give them access to the jewel between your legs, you've made their dreams come true. You've given them a slice of heaven.'

5.0 out of 5 stars Ganz anders...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great read!!
Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseThe Space Between alternates between different POVs but the "main" voice so to speak is Leni. She starts off in Italy, on her last night and performance in a dance tour. It's here that she meets Jeric and keeps running into him. Leni is undeniably attracted to Jeric (an international underwear model!) but has more pressing matters to worry about -- her uncle is gone. And there's NO record of him anywhere.
Jeric is also searching for answers about his family and they keep running into each other. But it's definitely not your typical fall-in-love story because both keep hearing dyad in their head when they touch and mysterious flame tattoos have sprung up on both their wrists.
This was definitely a page turner because as things got crazier and more mysterious I just wanted to know WHY and HOW and what's going on?? I mean, if I had been in Leni's place, I really would've been freaking out.
I think Kristie Cook did an amazing job fleshing out these characters. They aren't perfect people. Leni has incredible strength but you can also see what her insecurities are. She grows so much that actually, now that I'm thinking about how she was in the beginning, I'm surprised by how much she grows! Then there's Jeric. He has had a tough life growing up and as a result, he shoulders blame on himself way too easily. I just want to hug him. He has a cavalier playboy attitude that at first makes you kind of mad at him. But despite the initial image, he grows and he shows incredible ability to love and fight and protect. Jeric and Leni's interactions are just simply amazing! At first I was nervous it was going to be fall-in-love-at-first-sight but it's so far from that! I love it when they're together! This takes the meaning of "soul mates" to a whole different level and it's awesome.
The characters in the book are really what make it good, especially because plot wise, it was a little slow in the beginning. I think it's because this is the first book in a series and some set up was needed but there were some parts that did get pretty repetitive. If you've read it, you'll know what I mean. On one hand, the redundancy is kind of necessary but on another hand, it did make the first half a little too slow for me.
Once the action started, the pace picks up. The Shadowmen are quite creepy and I thought the action scenes of Leni and Jeric fighting them were really well written! Seriously, it was like I was watching it happen in a movie. I really liked Cook's writing style and I liked the different POV format. Sometimes different POVs can get annoying because you get caught up in one story line and then you have to enter into another but everything flowed together really nicely. I loved being able to be in different characters' heads!
My only complaint is that it seemed like we set everything up and built up this whole premise and you're kind of waiting at the edge of your seat... but then it ends. Once again, it is the first novel in the series so I get that there needed to be a good foundation but I just wanted more at the end. Or maybe it's just because I really want to read more about Jeric and Leni and can't wait for the next book! So, it definitely gets you hooked into the series!
Overall, Cook spins romance and paranormal together very well and I'm looking forward to her next installment!

3.0 out of 5 stars ... Cook was her Soul Savers series that I absolutely loved. She has way of coming up with the ...
Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseThe first books I read by Kristie Cook was her Soul Savers series that I absolutely loved. She has way of coming up with the most creative ideas and putting them onto pages to make magnificent story-telling. Although I did like this book, it still does not compare to her other work.
The story was very interesting and I was just as curious about the strange things happening to Jeric and Leni as they were. I had my suspicions though. I think they were very diverse characters since Jeric is deaf and has to sing to communicate and Leni surprisingly turned out to be African American, something I did not pick up on till the end of the book. Go figure.
The most amazing thing about this book was the telling of two stories in one. (the journal Leni found and read from). I found myself loving two sets of characters as they experienced similar anomalies. But I will say that I friggin loved Micah and Jacey.
Micah. Jacey. (swoons)
Anyways. The romance between Leni and Jeric were great too, it just took a lot of time for them to admit their feelings while trying to get answers for all the strange things happening to them that weren't quite coincidences. They slowly opened up to one another and trusting each other with their secrets. Although Leni irked me quite a bit. But this book is also their struggle to let go of their personal issues so they can become stronger together.
This was a nice read and kept me interested throughout the whole book. Even though I wanted to smack some sense into Jeric and Leni at the end, it was still a pretty good read.
