- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 March 2015This is a superb collection of books tangling suspense thriller, whodunnit, police skulduggery, goodies, baddies and general family chaos into a storyline that you really want to be part of. I love the main character - Lorne who struggles with maintaining the balance between home life, a hectic work schedule, her love life and her inner demons but somehow manages to get things into perspective. I winced at the harrowing graphic descriptions of the crimes and felt every pain of the victims which is testament to the author for pulling me into the story and making me part of the scenes - if only as an onlooker - but nevertheless I was there! I'm feasting on the whole series - all bought and waiting to be enjoyed - up to book 6 so far and not a single regret in buying them. Enjoy them too - but read them in order as the background stories kind of follow on.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 September 2014Number 6 in the Justice series - I really have enjoyed reading the series so far, and was keen to start book number 6. I have to say that I did find the plot rather unbelievable even allowing for "writers licence" - But I still found myself turning the pages to see what scrapes Lorne got herself into in this book. Running a dog refuge and also turning her hand to being a PI (with her husband, ex MI6, Tony) there is plenty of action.
Not one of the best in this series but still enjoyable and a page turner.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 November 2024Some people go through so much in their lives Lorne Warner is no exception, you feel her strength and resilience through such clever writing, every journey she makes I'm with her, with each turn of the page my heart is in my mouth, even at the end of the book I know there's more to come. Superb stories love it!

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 July 2014This was my least favourite story in the series. It seemed to have been written in quite a different way with the Lorne/Tony relationship for some reason and it didn't work as well, I thought. It does say this is the final story but I know now there are two more. I hope she's reverted back to her old style of writing for those. Parts I thought were highly unlikely as well whereas in prior outings all the stories have been very believable. If I'd not read the others in the series I'd be pretty confused about how some people in the story feature (especially Carol) so I don't recommend this as a stand-alone book.
The weatherman mention was wrong, too-it was Michael Fish in 1987 not Bill Giles in '86. That was really infamous so I'm surprised it was wrong.
There were the odd missed hyphen or comma and a couple of Americanisms popped up out of nowhere-maximize and antagonize. Then conspicuous was used when it should've been inconspicuous and agro used in place of aggro.
I intend to stick with the series, though, as I have enjoyed these books over all.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 March 2013A ship sinks taking it's human cargo with it. Lorne is determined to bring the perpetrators to justice little knowing the danger involved and how close to home it will come!
I love how Lorne is so much more than just a private investigator, she shares her life as a mother, wife, daughter, kennel owner and ex-cop with the reader and this brings so much more to the story.
In my personal opinion this is the best of the series yet,as ever the plot is tight and action packed and the more I learn about the characters the more I like them.
I know this is meant to be the final book in the series but I hope for the readers' sake the author will change her mind.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 June 2013Fast moving and lots of action. A bit too much action. It all happens. After all that has happened in the previous books I would think Lorne would want to live a quiet life, but the story is gritty and believable. If you have read the other books in this series than you have to read this one. I am now going to read the 3rd book, about the unicorn, I feel I had overloaded on the unicorn hence going straight to 4th book.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 April 2013well this was book 6 in a series that i've trully enjoyed reading.
I'm a little sad that this is probably the last in the series, although we can live in hope for another one one day.
A great read, i didnt want to stop reading, i needed to carry on to see what was happening, but as i got towards the end i didnt want to read because i knew once i finished it that was it...lol..
May i suggest a box of tissues for when you get near the end, and maybe reading it on your own, not in public..lol
Thanks again Mel for a fantastic series, i just cant wait to see what you write next. looking forward to the new book...

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerfully moving book from Prologue to End
One of the things I've loved about the Justice series--I skipped no pages. I've followed DI Lorne Simpkins from Cruel Justice to Ultimate Justice, and it's been a thrill ride all the way.
Starting with the Prologue I knew I had another mystery/thriller on my hands, but the first several chapters had me slightly confused at first. Lorne, now settled in with her new husband, Tony, and father Sam, were trying to build their private investigation business while saving dogs and finding homes for them. As a dog lover, this endeared Lorne even more to my heart, and I loved this small trip through her personal life. I feel as though I know her already, but seeing her in her home setting with family was in many ways a small treat. I did, however, wonder where that detective I've grown to love went.
Then it happened. A news story of a shipwreck, bodies on the beach. A young house maid with swollen eyes and a hidden secret and Lorne was back up and running with her former partner Katy, and a somewhat misguided and unfortunate reporter.
M. A. Comley takes us on another thrill ride, right into the dark side of human nature. Lorne, hot on the trail with Katy by her side discovers things that she can't ignore. Which is one of the things I love about her. She rushes in to save the innocent, protect those who can't protect themselves, even at her own peril.
Be prepared to smile, to laugh, and finally to cry. A powerfully moving book from prologue to end.
I would rate this book R--for violence and sex. It deals with a subject matter that some find offensive, but is a reality we all must face as it does happen. If you love a good thrill ride and a strong female character who also isn't afraid to show her softer side and be a wife, mother, daughter and friend, I highly recommend the Justice series. If you're a former Justice fan, you'll love seeing Pete again, if only for a moment.
