Ginger the Buddha Cat Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 63 ratings

Ginger is back, and facing a tough decision. Sausages or enlightenment?

“...wise and worldly, yet wonderfully sweet and silly. Lovely...”
“...great fun, touching and laugh out loud funny. Will appeal to both children and adults alike...”
“...deliciously rebellious and very, very funny, yet amongst the entertainment is a powerful message and an easy-going introduction to Buddhist philosophy..."

Ginger is about to relive the first of his nine lifetimes upon this earth - as a fat, greedy god-cat in ancient India. With the help of his little pal Sparky, the cutest cat in the universe, he must curb his appetites and bring home the top sausage known to Man - without eating it. If he succeeds, he will win the heart of Madame Frou-Frou, the prettiest kitty on the block. He will also prove himself worthy of becoming the Buddha's cat. If he fails, no good cat will ever go to Heaven.

"Well Frank, you've done it again - written a funny and almost too good to be true memoir. TOO YOUNG TO BE OLD: FROM CLAPHAM TO KATHMANDU is laugh out loud and introduces you to Kevin - his companion in India. Well what can I say that hasn't already. Another wonderful installment from Frank Kusy and the naughty twosome that is Ginger and Sparky. In this book we learn some of Ginger's past nine lives and it's wonderful to read how those lives intertwine with Sparky and Frank. We also get a lesson in Buddhism. Now, don't be worrying that you about to get a read trying to convert you, this isn't what this book is all about at all. Ginger discovers that he used to be a Buddhist in one of his previous lives and the lessons of Buddhism are written in such a way that it makes it fun to read, interesting and again, a book that a child or an adult will enjoy. I especially liked the introduction of Ginger's Buddhist past, a gentle introduction in a religion many wouldn't know about. Remember though, you are not getting a sermon here. This is a funny, entertaining, enjoyable story. If you read Ginger the Gansta Cat, you know there is always an adventure to be had and in this book, Ginger and Sparky embark on a quest to find the worlds greatest 'sossidge'. Well done Frank, another five star read.

I am already a big fan of Frank Kusy’s writing so when ‘Ginger’ was recommended to me I jumped at the chance to read it.

This is the second book in the ‘Ginger’ series, the heroes of whom are the rotund, recalcitrant Ginger, and his cute, polite pal, Sparky. In this adventure Ginger gets wrapped up in Buddhism as he relives the first of his nine lives as an obese god-cat in ancient India. In the meantime he falls for the gorgeous Madame Frou-Frou – and when you read all about her you’ll understand why. In order to win her favour he must bring home the best sausage in the world, and that’s a tough ask for a greedy moggy like Ginger.

Frank’s descriptive style of writing is full of flair, humour and wit. I loved his characterisation of the cats, and giggled my way through of their many escapades. The addition of the ‘oomans’, Lee, Joe and Madge perfectly complement the cats’ characters and add yet more colour to the story. And, as if that isn’t enough, Frank subtly weaves some of the main principles surrounding Buddhism into the plot, which I found fascinating. But just how does he manage to do all this in a book that holds equal appeal to adults as it does to children? I would strongly recommend you read it to find out. For me it’s a winning 5* read.

From start to finish this tale of Ginger and his cute pal Sparky had me in stitches as did Sparky's doting owner and his cynical better half Madge. After reading Ginger the Gangster cat I was very familiar with all the feline and ooman characters with the new addition of Frou Frou the attractive white Persian who had her heart set on Ginger. Their adventures while awake are unbelievable and in their dreams they searched for Buddha getting to his death bed in the nick of time hoping for Ginger to be enlightened...worth a read to find out...I am hoping there will be more to entertain adults and kids who like cats and enjoy adventures and a good giggle .

This is another wonderful quirky tale about the irascible and rather cantankerous Ginger and his companion Sparky ‘the cutest cat in the Universe’. They are mates in this life and we learn that they have past lives together as well as Buddhists. In fact Ginger was the Buddha’s cat. We also discover that the two cats have also had links to their owner Joe in previous lives. The characters of Ginger and Sparky are entirely believable and the interaction between them is lovely. Ginger becomes smitten with Frou Frou a local lovely who sets Ginger a challenge to bring her the best sausage in the world. His quest sees him and Sparky aided by Lee the carpet fitter set of for Munich. Unfortunately they run into trouble and return home empty handed. However all ends well with Joe ecstatic at Sparky’s return. Ginger confesses to Frou Frou that there is no ‘sossidge’ and that he is now a peace loving Buddhist! Woven into the story are the two cats’ dreams which cleverly give an insight into Buddhism. This is a great little story – I love the battle scarred Ginger! He deserves to be a star.

More than just another anthropomorphic book about cats, more than a children's story and much more than just a sequel to Ginger the Gangster. Ginger and his side kick (the ever patient Sparky) go on a hazardous 'sossidge' pilgrimage, looking for 'The World's best Sausage'. A humdinger of a story, combining brilliant dialogue (in dialect), wonderful story lines and a fantastic introduction to Buddhism. Funny and thought provoking, irreverent and unique, I loved every bit of it. Write more of them Frank!

5.0 out of 5 stars A TRAVEL BOOK OR A BOOK FOR CAT AFFICIONADOS, EITHER WAY, A GREAT READ!
Reviewed in the United States on 29 March 2014
Here's the way it is. You just have to love Mr. Kusy's wry sense of humor and ability to make anthropomorphic cats come alive with more personality than many writers manage to put into their solely human creations. For the full review, check out Ginger the Gangster Cat, which is actually the first in this hilarious adventure series (although I read them just fine in the wrong order). Suffice to say, the machinations of Ginger, the wily tomcat, and the adorable but naïve actions of black-and-white kitten Sparky, who can't help himself--he knows how to write due to some interesting reincarnation adventures--lead the reader merrily across India as these unknowingly-wise and wise-ass creatures discover karmic reasons for their misadventures and relationships. And we humans as well as Sparky's "oomans" (as Ginger would call them) are along for a very entertaining ride.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Cat Who Loved Sausages
Reviewed in the United States on 27 February 2014
I enjoyed this humorous tale of Ginger and his feline friend Sparky. I learned a little about Buddhism along the way. I like the fact that the book is set in India and yet Ginger has a British accent. The tales of the cats were entertaining and often very funny. My favorite part of the entire book was when Joe, the cat who loved sausages, explained that he loved them because they came out the same way they go in.

I would highly recommend this well written book to anyone who loves a good cat story that will make you laugh out loud.

This book is the sequel to Ginger the Gangster Cat.I bought it as I enjoyed the first book so much. The plot of the book didn't hold my interest and the characters were not as interesting.I would buy the sequel to this as the antics of Ginger and Sparky and their "hoomans" just to see what was going on.
