The world has changed. One must adapt to survive or hold on to the crumbling shards of humanity.

I have loved this series so far, the idea of people turning into different types of vampires because of something airborne is so original.
I love the characters, April is a typical kickass teen who takes everything upon her shoulders and strikes but shes also really caring with her family. And Rye is amazing and so restrained especially when it comes to April.
The story is fast paced with so much action from the first page I didn't even realise i had come to the end.
I can't wait to see what will happen in the next book...

The first book 'Reign of Blood' started well into the vampire apocalypse with the great first line " Never tease anything that wants to eat you" so where would this, the second book start, it starts at the beginning April and her best friend Sarah are travelling home from a study session they hear the screaming but have no idea what's going on and its not until April gets home that she gets an idea of just how bad it is.
After her ordeal in the last book Aprils mother is a shadow of her former self and April takes on the role of Parent but a discovery sends April on a mission where she meets not only danger but people she thought she'd never see again.
Now I've become quite addicted to this series, the first book was spoilt only by April and apart from her 'too stupid to live' moments she's better in this book, I do hate those moments I hate it when any character in any book makes one but since it's nearly always a female I hate it more. The other problem I had was Elijah, I don't care if he was preoccupied or whatever but seeing another human above ground and especially after so long.....I didn't buy the way he acted at all. Ok so he had a 'too stupid to live moment' as well, equal opportunities and all that.
    Can't wait to start 'Amplified'

I got the first book free, I enjoyed it so much that I immediately bought the second. Don't want to give any of the story away so all I can say is that this was a very enjoyable read. Between vampire and human mutations life is definitely a rollercoaster for April. With twists and turns you don't expect I was glued till the very last page. looking forward to the next instalment.

    a truly brilliant story

What can I say about this second book in the Reign of Blood series besides WOW?
The author threw in a couple of twists, mixed in some more love interests and creating a recipe for a fantastic book that does not leave you disappointed.
The first book left after April had saved her mum and brother from another hive of vampires, but her mum was never the same afterwards - becoming completely withdrawn.
Follow April as she now steps in the play the mother role to her own mum and brother whilst trying to find out who is killing all the feral vsmpires.
This book is definitely a must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get ready for another great read
Reviewed in the United States on 14 September 2013
First of all I would like to warn all readers to be prepared to clear you schedule for the day before you even think about picking up this book. Once you start reading it you will literally not be able to do anything else in till it's done.So I Just finished book 2 of the Reign of blood series and I have to say that this book were really, really good. It has some twist in it that were completely unexpected. There were things happening that I never seen coming. I was captivated from the start and unable to put this book down. April is such a strong character in this book, I cannot believe the turn of events with her getting mated to Christian. Who would have thought? And him of all people?? Then to find out that he actually is a nice guy. Now I can't even decide who I really want April to be with, Christian or Rye?? I think I am more team Rye but everything changed in the end and now I am even as confused as the main character. Then to have an evil Vampire queen. That was defiantly a nice touch to the book. I love everything about this series from the action to the new friendships, plots and twist. Thank you Alexia Purdy for another great read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Love can be selfish
Reviewed in the United States on 17 September 2017
This story just keeps getting murkier and more frightening. I want to box April's ears for treating Rye the way she does, though I understand her point of view. Love can be selfish, and it's hard to let yourself be selfish when there is so much more on the line. However, her treatment of Rye is how she keeps getting into the predicaments she finds herself in. And the whole Christian thing just makes my heart sick. But if you're looking for a story that has plenty of chaos and conflict, along with moments that you find yourself yelling at the characters in your head (or out loud if that's a possibility), this one definitely fulfills that requirement. I loved where it picked up, and the suspense was constant. April was a bit depressing, but I guess one would have to be facing apocalyptic situations to know.

Yes, there were some grammatical errors. Also, I thought the past and present tenses were a little mixed up. And I don't think I've ever read a story that was written in both first person and third person before. But I have to judge the book on the story, and this story captured me and held my attention. It made me grieve, made me angry, made me smile, and it it took me to a place I hope to never experience. I think the author is an extraordinary storyteller, and I look forward to seeing where the next book takes us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Continuing tale of zompire apocalypse in Las Vegas
Reviewed in the United States on 13 May 2014
An enjoyable read continues the story of April Tate and her family, who have survived the viral apocalypse that has pretty much wiped the human race from the planet. It has left a struggle for survival against not only “zompires” or feral vampires but hybrid creatures who are either a super human or super vampire.

There are a few twists and turns to the plot that throw you off expectations that were set up in the first book. Just keep up with the story and you will love where it is heading. The addition of new characters, some old friends and even a few old nemeses will turn up along the way that will leave you exasperated and thrilled.

Highly recommend the entire series. It is well thought out and makes wonderful use of the terrain of the Las Vegas valley to add to the story. There are local landmarks that are well established and maybe even visited so you can picture events as they unfold for many characters.

3.0 out of 5 stars I was disappointed with this one
Reviewed in the United States on 25 September 2013
The first book was great and I couldn't put it down. This book felt more "rushed." There were MANY typos and grammatical errors. I vowed to throw this one across the room (not literally, don't want to damage my Kindle!) if I read the word "amazing" one more time. I still liked the story and the different spin that the author put on things. However, the ending was AWFUL. It felt ... forced. I know this is sci-fi/fantasy and not to be taken literally, but the climax to this story was just too "out there" for me. That scene wasn't written well at all in my opinion. Not sure if I'm interested in reading the 3rd one now. I mean, what else can be done/said with these characters and plot line?

5.0 out of 5 stars Conundrums Abound
Reviewed in the United States on 4 June 2014
This series must be read in order. The first book is Reign of Blood (Reign of Blood #1). This is the second book.

Murphy's Law truly describes the world now... Whatever can go wrong WILL go wrong! April is stuck with her mother Helen who has retreated into agoraphobia and distanced herself from her children and the world to the point of complete introspection and self loathing disinterest. Helen will not even allow April to see to her grooming needs. April does not know what tortures her mother endured at the hands of Christian's Hive but she wishes her mother would snap out of it already! She(April) is just waaay too young to be the mother/teacher/protector/decision-maker for her family of hybrid humans! After all she is just 18!!! The new world order is no order at all with feral Zompires around every corner and more mysteries surfacing every day... Why can't she bring herself to commit to Rye? What is she going to do about her mother Helen? Does she really have a say on the Hive's ruling council or is it just for show to keep her around(she is after all the salvation of the hybrid vampires as she carries the cure to the wasting/rotting disease in her blood)? Will they ever find out what caused this terrible plague of death/undeath? Who or what is mass exterminating the Ferals? Or are they just committing mass suicide?

This book has the romance as a major issue for April to deal with... so I definitely would not consider this in any way a romance novel lol. The thrills and chills are a good spice for all the action and adventure. While the mysteries definitely make you want to yell at April to just mind her own business and stay in her quasi safe world instead of poking at every little thing that is new or different or confusing! I felt like the kid in the theater yelling at the girl on the screen "don't do it!" Alot of the time reading this book. The humor is present throughout even if it is of a Much darker flavor this time around :) I really enjoyed this book and can not wait to read the next one Amplified (Reign of Blood #3) or maybe Elijah (The Miel Chronicles) (A Reign of Blood Series Companion) the companion novella! I havent decided which yet ... But whichever I read I know it will be Awesome :)
