Dizzy Dilemmas Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 137 ratings

The Duke of Glenmore had not been in London many days before he became the target of every determined matchmaker and their tenacious daughters. His first encounter with the youngest child of the Earl of Elveston leads him to believe she is yet another debutante hoping to be his Duchess but a few pithy words and her subsequent actions soon disabuse him of such a notion.
What better way to avoid the traps laid for him by every man-hungry woman than to pretend to woo the one unattached female in all of the capital who does not want him? She, however, has other ideas. If he wants to be seen courting her, then he will have to catch her first!

I was recommended this book by a friend of mine and she has never stirred me wrong!

This book had me laughing out loud in places and all the way through a smile was on my face. If you like romance with a dose of comedy then this is definitely the book for you. I fell in love with the main characters instatntly but the siblings too were great and I am off to see if the author has written more books about this family!!

I wanted to give this 5 stars but then I got to the very very end of the story and couldn't do it. The story was sooo good, but then it just ended. Very suddenly, in my opinion.

SPOILER ALERT: I did not like that he tricked her in to marrying him. Everyone else knew it was real but her, and that's not how a girl wants her wedding day. Clearly she forgave him for that, but still. And I know that he was ultimately left with few choices since he got himself in to quite the pickle with his relationship tactics, but there were still other ways he could have gone about a proposal. I know that after the marriage, these novels wrap up real quick, but she forgave him pretty quickly and it was pretty unbelievable that she was convinced with just a simple "I love you" that he actually loved her and wasn't just playing her since he had been using terms of endearment throughout the whole deal. It would take more than hot sex to thoroughly convince me that I was no longer being toyed with, but with a flick of the switch she was on board with it. I don't know, I think it could have done with more convincing there in the end. Other than the abrupt ending, I thought the story was amazing and I LOVED Dizzy.

Light hearted, witty story with a few twists. A modern day Georgette Heyer. A pleasant afternoon's reading in the sunshine.

I was surprised at the sexy bits but it made the characters more interesting. I'm going to try the other book.

I really loved the characters to begin with, the story was set up very nicely.....and all things looked good.

However, I found myself about two thirds of the way through the book saying to myself "so, when is the plot going to actually begin?" and then when towards the very end, it did indeed get going - to be honest by this time, I found the heroine to be weak willed and the hero to be overbearing and conceited.

I like to have a good dose of tension in any romance I read but every time there was an opportunity for that tension to build, the heroine just gave up - which left me wishing I gave up on the book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny dialouges and Dizzies charming family are worth it!!!
Reviewed in Germany on 30 January 2013

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 STARS NOT ENOUGH
Reviewed in the United States on 30 January 2013
This story caught me from the first page and I laughed for the rest of the book. Such a simple start. Dizzy is attempting to take a glass of water to her grandma across a crowded ballroom. Accidentally spills it on Glenmore. When he accuses her of using it as a strategem to meet him she gives as good as she gets. The story revolves around his pursuit of her and her attempts to sidestep him. The characters are extremely likeable and lots of fun. The dialogue is witty. The dynamics of her family are terrific. I loved this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Beeken Home Run
Reviewed in the United States on 21 February 2014
Unbelievably Ms. Beeken has only written two books; "Dizzy Dilemmas" is her second one. I read her first novel, "Seven Year Hitch" and absolutely loved it! I gave that book a 5 star review, an unusual occurrence for a new author. "Dizzy Dilemmas" is another wonderful humorous regency romance, although I didn't enjoy it quite as much as "Seven Year." The book is quite well written, though it could use a bit of editing; nothing drastic mind you, but a bit of a "tune-up" is in order. The cast of characters are well drawn and relatable, and quite funny!

In this book we again meet Erica and Ross (the h and H from "Seven Year Hitch") who are close friends with the hero, Marcus, Duke of Glenshire. Marcus and Dizzy meet when she literally walks into him at a ball, spilling water all over his clothing. Marcus is convinced that Dizzy did so on purpose, as a ploy to bring herself to his attention (he is after all a highly eligible Duke!) Dizzy is so incensed at Marcus' accusation that she then intentionally empties the rest of her water on Marcus. LOL From there the story quickly develops.

Coincidentally, Marcus and Dizzy's eldest brother, Gideon, are friends. With Gideon, Erica, and Ross all intent of matching Dizzy and Marcus, the two find themselves often in each other's company. The interaction between them is chock full of witty repartee and, oftentimes, outrageous humor. Marcus concocts a scheme to avoid matchmaking mothers and their progeny, by pretending to court Dizzy. She, of course, wants no part of the ruse, but Marcus is not deterred by Dizzy's reluctance. It's not long before Marcus is caught in his own trap, when he finds himself falling in love with Dizzy. He then has the dilemma of how to convince Dizzy that he is no longer pretending to court her, but really wants her as his wife. The story of how Marcus wins his lady love is LOL funny, cute, lighthearted, and sweet.

IMO, the only drawback is that there aren't any opportunities for Marcus to play the knight in shining armor. All the interactions between he and Dizzy consist of lighthearted banter, or steamy sensuality or, more often than not, some combination of the two. Although I enjoyed the humor, I would have loved to have seen some tender moments between the two...not that Marcus isn't sweet with Dilemma, but he mostly teases her. Furthermore, I felt like the ending could have been a bit more...Dizzy's reaction when she discovered Marcus' ruse to trick her into marrying him is a bit anticlimactic. IMO, either the ending needed to be developed a little more, or an epilogue should've been included. Otherwise, this regency romance encompasses a fantastic story. I loved it and highly recommend it. BTW this is not a clean romance; there are a few!-I'm, somewhat graphic-- love scenes. Happy reading!

4.0 out of 5 stars Selten so gelacht, fast ohne Pause
Reviewed in Germany on 5 May 2013

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet story
Reviewed in the United States on 8 May 2013
I'm no critic I enjoy reading too much and I am truly grateful for the work it takes to tell a good story. I like this book and I'm grateful to the author. I enjoyed this book for three reasons. First there are no trite damsel in distress subplots. Two, I like the characters. The story is populated by kind pleasant people. I'm really bored with villains. There are too many on the evening news. Third, I really enjoyed the dialogue. Some of it was laugh out loud funny, and all of it was entertaining.
