The Secret of the Stones: A Pulse-Pounding Archaeological Thriller (The Lost Chambers Trilogy Book 1) Kindle Edition
After a historian is murdered while investigating an ancient text, and an archaeologist goes missing, former government Sean Wyatt finds himself in a race against time to solve a series of clues from a long-forgotten past. To make things worse, the archaeologist is his best friend.
Sean discovers a 4000 year old mystery buried deep in the southeastern United States. If this secret is uncovered, it could bring about a pandemic unlike anything the world has ever seen.
And that's exactly what one man wants. So he can remake the human race in his image.
Every riddle along the path carries its own dangers. And one wrong move could cost Sean his life. On top of that, a sinister branch of an old secret society is on his tail, and they will stop at nothing to uncover the secret of the stones.
Welcome to the International Archaeological Agency.
The Secret of the Stones is Ernest Dempsey's first novel in the groundbreaking Sean Wyatt Adventure series about friendship, and doing whatever it takes to save the people you love against impossible odds, and amid a global conspiracy that spans the course of human history.
A DEEPER DIVE INTO THE SECRET OF THE STONES
Sean Wyatt did his time saving the world with the Axis agency. Now he just wants to kick back and run security detail for his best friend's International Archaeological Agency. Until everything changes.
While investigating a strange series of ancient symbols, Sean's friend vanishes, and a professor he entrusted with a 4000 year-old secret is murdered.
With only a few people he can trust, Sean must unravel the clues to a powerful mystery.
He must fight off highly trained mercenaries in hand to hand combat, engage in furious gun battles, and survive high speed car chases through the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia.
And in the end, what Sean learns will change the history books as we know them, and could alter the scope of human civilization as we know it.
What Sean doesn't know is how far the mastermind behind all of it is willing to go to make his sinister plans a reality.
The Secret of the Stones is packed with suspense and mystery, conspiracies and fascinating secret societies, and leaves you turning the pages late into the night in USA Today Bestseller Ernest Dempsey's breakthrough international adventure series.

About the author

I love history. Always have, as long as I can remember. And I also love literature. Same story with that. Most of all, I love archaeological thrillers like the ones I grew up watching in the 1980s: the Goonies, Indiana Jones, stuff with a mystery and a good treasure hunt. Now I live in the most amazing dream where I get to write those kinds of archaeological thrillers for a living.
I've also always had a fondness for Fantasy and Science Fiction. So, if you snoop around my catalog you may find a few of those stories too.
I attended Southern Adventist University from 1995-2003, earning a bachelors degree in psychology and a masters in school counseling. In my heart, however, I've always been a storyteller, an entertainer. So, after twelve years of working in the school system, I quit my job to write full time.
I've learned over the years, both in writing stories and in my experience, that life is unpredictable.
Cliché, I know.
But people crave a little predictability now and then, when the good guys win and the bad guys get their comeuppance. The most important thing, both in books and in life, is that the end can be easy to predict so long as the journey isn't. You may know how a story will end, or at least have an inkling, but if you don't know how it gets there, then that unpredictability makes it fun.
That's how I approach storytelling.
So, if you like twists in stories, you'll find them here. All along the journey. And maybe occasionally at the end. But one thing is certain; you will never be bored.
Come on this journey with me. I promise I will always work hard to honor your valuable time with exciting action, baffling mysteries, and intriguing history.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 April 2025This was a fantastic read. The plot was very well written, no holes that I caught anyway.
The characters work really well together and I immediately felt emotion towards them.
The flow and pacing were excellent, nearly missed my bus stop!
So far any females have been well written. There wasn’t too much in the way of female characters so we shall see on that front with further books.
All action was warranted not there for the sake of it. Not much detail in terms of death just your standard “shot and bleeding from the chest” type thing so if gore isn’t your thing this is a fantastic action packed read.
No sex scenes either if that also isn’t your thing. A little light flirting is all I picked up.
Over all a great read and I shall be swiftly moving on to the next! Thanks for a great read Mr Dempsey!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 January 2024Entertaining enough but will probably forget it in a couple of months ,It passed a few nights reading not bad but nothing New either it was predictable with your typical bad guys killing people all over the place for no apparent reason but the good guys winning eventually,I'll give the second book a read in a couple of months and see if it's any better.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 May 2025I have been fortunate to have found another author who has intrigued me and found my weak spot for keeping me from putting a novel down. This is my next adventure with Ernest. Thank you
Robbie
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 May 2018This is an enjoyable but ludicrous read, hence the three stars. Obviously Indiana Jones based, but villains are based on pantomime characters, you boo and hiss as you read it. The body count is ridiculous and the police just carry on matter of factly as though it happens everyday. Cars park up at various tourists attractions full of bullet holes and nobody bats an eye lid. Our intrepid hero quite happily kills everyone in sight, every cliche in the book is here. A fun read but a load of garbage. A read just for the fun of it, forget about the terrible flaws in the story and enjoy and don't forget to say, "He's behind you!".
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 December 2018I love stories that blend myth, history and adventure and this one does not disappoint. The following of clues to a great treasure, the threat of an undisclosed hand setting a plan to warp belief systems. The native American culture is a fascinating and not well known early democracy, that has sadly been distorted through Hollywood. I would thoroughly recommend this book to those that enjoy adventure, historical factors. Will look forward to reading the next Sean Wyatt adventure.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 July 2024A fantastic book! I didn't want to put it down! A mix of action and adventure. The book follows Sean Wyatt as he fights to stay alive so he can rescue his best friend, an archeologist who has been kidnapped after finding an artefact that can lead the way to a treasure the world has never seen before.
This book has more than a hint of Indiana Jones, a touch of James Bond, and something more than is purely Ernest Dempsey.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 May 2013THE SECRET OF THE STONES Ernest Dempsey Kindle Edition
It is a real pleasure to discover a new author whose books are as good as this one. I am a keen follower of the archaeological style of mystery and Mr. Dempsey has added a breath of fresh air to the genre.
The story is set in the south eastern United States of Georgia and Tennessee and brings to the reader knowledge of the Native American history of the region that is probably almost totally unknown to most readers, certainly those outside of the US. Add to this some speculative mystery and a hidden treasure and you have the formula for an excellent story.
There is plenty of action, with believable characters, and a equally believable and gripping plot. In short this is a well written, good entertaining reading which I shall add this book to my `To Read Again' file and would strongly recommend Mr Dempsey to other addicts of the genre.
I look forward to reading his next Sean Wyatt novel which I have already download and intend starting in the next few days.
The Kindle Edition: Well produced e-book with active index. 5/5
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 November 2020Really good read for those who enjoy archeological thrillers. Storyline is cohesive, characters have identities and the plot itself is engaging. The author has done his research and its good to read a story which may actually be believable to a certain degree. Will definitely read another Sean Wyatt book.
