Oxford Blood (The Cavaliers Series: Book One): A vampire urban fantasy romance trilogy (The Cavaliers Trilogy 1) Kindle Edition
The Cavaliers are the most prestigious society at Oxford University—rich, powerful, and beautiful. No one realises that they are no ordinary students, but a group of aristocratic vampires from the English Civil War. For four hundred years they have groomed promising students to run the government, police, and finance, granting them eternal life in return for absolute obedience.
When Harriet French arrives at Oxford University from her working class northern state school, she’s prepared for a culture shock, but not for the Cavaliers’ scheming and bloodlust—or the romantic attention of two rival vampires, who are attractive and terrifying in equal measure.
Harriet thought she'd be busy enough juggling her demanding professor, new friends, and the shady world of student politics. But now, she must find out who is killing off members of the Cavaliers, stop the group from orchestrating a massacre of the year’s most beautiful and successful students, and defy the society to be with the vampire she loves.
Oxford Blood is the first book in The Cavaliers Series, a completed British urban fantasy vampire romance trilogy. It's a dark tale with bad boy vampires that aren't afraid to kill and a strong heroine who's not afraid of sex or her own ambition.
It’s perfect for fans of the setting and history of A Discovery of Witches, the mystery and intrigue of True Blood/Southern Vampire Mysteries, and the villainous but alluring love interests—and love triangle— of Vampire Diaries, all with a new adult, dark academia, college vibe.

About the Author
Georgiana fell in love with vampire novels after reading The Vampire Diaries back in 2000. At the time it was a struggle to find any similar paranormal romances, a situation that it’s fair to say seems to have been rectified in the last few years. She now loves paranormal series such as True Blood, fantasy novels, and modern literary works in roughly equal measure.
Ever since her teens, she wanted to write a vampire series. Ever since going to Oxford she wanted to write a book about her experiences there. During a dull few months between finishing university and starting her graduate job, she had the idea of combining the two and The Cavaliers Series was born.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 November 2013Although there are vampires and a love triangle, this novel is not a cookie cutter paranormal romance; none of these vampires is only waiting for the right woman to reveal a caring side beneath a pretence of gruffness, and the myriad other aspects of student life among vampires have equal weight with romance.
Since the Civil War Oxford University has been home to the Cavaliers; ostensibly another dining society; actually a vampiric conspiracy to recruit then advance the brightest and best of each generation by whatever means necessary. When Harriet French arrives to read History she finds herself courted by not one but two vampires. Horrified by their hungers but drawn to their power she struggles to balance humanity with ambition.
Derwent's addition of vampires to Oxford life is skilfully done, leaving no seams. Her use of Harriet's ignorance to reveal the truths of her vampires is similarly well handled, neither leaving the reader struggling to understand events nor resorting to crude expositions of knowledge already known to the characters. Having never been a clothes-horse I cannot comment on the intricacies of Harriet's love of clothes; however, it was prominent enough to give readers who care real experience of her tastes without overwhelming others with long passages on clothes.
Harriet is a strong character: at times shallow and ambitious enough to work with the Cavaliers if it might advance her interests; yet also loyal to her mortal friends, and ready to act against the Cavaliers on some issues. This makes her increasing attraction to blood-drinking tyrants more believable than that of the usual heroines of vampire romance.
The Cavaliers are similarly strongly portrayed; despite clearly all being products of both privilege and vampirism, even minor Cavaliers have distinct personalities. The major characters are especially carefully nuanced, making the idea of a factionalised but stable predator society very plausible. This finesse continues even after the dénouement, with the last sentences of the book adding depth to one of the vampires.
However, Derwent's creation of a blood-fueled version of high society might suffer from its own strength. Although there are supporting characters who are not part of, or do not support, the ruthless drive to be the most beautiful, the most successful, and the most powerful, self-interest and ambition are neither flaws nor defining characteristics in this novel. A reader who expects love to redeem, or inner character to win through, might find themselves disappointed.
I enjoyed this book greatly, finishing it in a single day. I recommend it to readers who enjoy new interpretations of the vampire myth, especially those seeking a counterpoint to the more usual humane vampire societies.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 February 2013Oxford Blood is an uneasy marriage of two stories. The first is Harriet's first year at Oxford University and gives the reader a peek into that world of tradition and privilege, of history and politics. The second is the story of the Cavaliers, an elite society of vampires. Both stories are interesting in themselves, and their union has great potential - but there is a difficulty also.
The discovery that vampires are real should be life-altering. Reality as you know and understand it, safe and predictable, suddenly becomes a terrifying unknown. Harriet is alone in her discovery, so the only person asking the questions that the reader wants to ask is Harriet herself - and, rather frustratingly, she doesn't. After the initial shock of discovery, she settles back into her usual life, quite accepting the existence and nature of vampires, only occasionally expressing fear or horror, almost indifferent to their blood-drinking, and bizarrely incurious about what they are exactly.
Finally, the book really needs an editorial review for grammar, and there's at least one glaring continuity error.
Despite these problems, I did enjoy reading Oxford Blood. Vampire novels give an almost unique opportunity to blend past and present, to bring history to life. When this story dips into the past, the writing comes alive with passion and detail. I'm curious to see what happens in the next book.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 August 2014A wonderful easy read that flows well. The female protagonist is likable and discovers a world she had no idea existed, all the while studying and enjoying life as a student. I enjoyed details given of Oxford life, a stunning first novel.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 May 2013I thoroughly enjoyed this book, to be set in the UK was novel and inventive with the university as a backdrop.
The storyline flowed easily along drawing you into the world of th Cavaliers and Oxford.
Cannot wait to read the second book.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 April 2016A fun, young adult at University crossed with a vampire paranormal romance. As with most vampire stories with young protagonists, it doesn't do to think too much about the internal consistency of the world. But if you can put your logic on hold, this story has good pace and has lots of interesting detailed insights into the world of Oxford University.
The main character Harriet is surprisingly blase about death and vampires and her insta-love with Tom doesn't make much sense to me. The love triangle character, George, is much more interesting as a character, and I hope that in the end of the trilogy she realises he is the better bet. I will read on to find out.
There is some on-page sexiness, but not as much as I'd usually associate with paranormal romance. It has more of the coy feeling of young adult or new adult, with quite light sex scenes, not too steamy. But the other parts of the book, the University life and the vampire plot, pulls the story on and it's a good, fun read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Insolito.. almeno per una lettrice italiana come me...

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this series!
Oxford Blood is the first in the Cavaliers series and Screaming Spires is the second. These are the first novels for Georgiana Derwent and I absolutely loved them! I couldn't stop reading book 1 until I finished it then went directly into book 2! I was up very late that night reading this series! I love that these book was set in England at Oxford and shows us another side of vampires I haven't seen before. I loved how she set up the vampire hierarchy and that it is pretty much like a fraternity. I have to say I am a huge George fan! I hope that Georgiana finds a way for Harriet and George to be together! They have way more chemistry then her and her crush on "Mr Perfect" Tom. I can't wait to see what happens with her mom and family as well.
I am dying for book 3...please tell me it comes out soon!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Monica's review
I have been thinking about a review for this book for a while, mainly because I don't usually read YA or NA, the main reason being that I find the characters silly and I struggle to relate to them. That said, after reading the description of the book I thought to give it a try and I did indeed enjoy this book very much. I enjoyed the setting, and never having been to Oxford, the descriptions by the author were well enough written that I could imagine myself there. The characters are enjoyable and the plot is good. The only thing that annoyed me slightly was Harriet's reactions to certain situations, they did not make sense to me. That said, this is a new series that I will follow and look forward to book two in the series.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good start to the series
I think I’m over vampires, but this was an entertaining enough read to keep my attention until the end. I think I’m over all the school stuff too, even if it is Oxford. If you enjoy paranormal romance this might be the series for you.
