About the author

I was born in southern California, grew up in the northwest, and earned degrees from the University of Idaho and Washington State University. Now I live in Ashland, Oregon, where I walk on country roads and read and write to my heart's content. Thank you for reading my novels and for encouraging others to read them.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 December 2014Wow, this is the first book I've read by this author and I've just downloaded my second book by her.I can't praise this one enough it was wonderfully uplifting perfect for reading at Christmas, or any other time for that matter.I hardly ever re-read books, I'm too impatient and always think there are so many books to read I don't have time, but I think I will make an exception for this book. There is so much wisdom as well as a lovely story that I know I will love reading it again some time.I think I saved the best till last for me this is the best book I've read all year the wonderful developing relationship between a girl and her grandmother is the most marvellous coming of age story I knew it was a special book even as I was still reading it, its one of those books that you want to go and on,I loved it and recommend it 100%

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 March 2016wonderful read, it goes straight into my favourite folder. So many truths and so much wisdom , yet not at all preachy or pushy. Uplifting read for all ages not just YA's. I have enjoyed all the author's books but this one stands out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful characters, setting and story!
1985, the Oregon Coast -- what a wonderful setting. Cassandra is a very mature 12-year-old who has spent her childhood with a dysfunctional single mom. Having had no real guidance, but feeling more like the adult in the mother-daughter family, she is sent to stay with her Grandmother who lives on the Oregon Coast. I was enchanted by this loveable and evolved grandmother, as well as the small town, its characters, and the setting. Cassandra feels abandoned at first, but her life will be changed. A wonderful read with many profound messages. Well-written, perfectly edited, perfectly paced. I look forward to reading more by Annie Katz who writes from her own extremely diverse life experiences.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nuggets of wisdom to improve your day
Can't remember how I became aware of this novel, perhaps through the discounted book emails I receive on a daily basis; regardless, I'm glad I stumbled upon it.
The author builds the characters so beautifully, you see them, you feel what they feel...quite simply, you delve into this novel because you love the way it makes you feel right from the beginning. AND, I love multi-generational stories and this one between Lila Blue and Cassandra is believable and absolutely endearing. Loved every page of this story.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Absolutely Chaming Story
What an absolutely charming story. This book is so full of beauty and wisdom. I highly recommend everyone read this story. If each person can incorporate just one small thing from Lila's wisdom, the world will be a much better place!
You will fall in love with all of the characters and the charming coastal town. This is a coming of age story, with the main characters being Lila Blue and her 12 year old grandaughter, Cassandra. Lila symbolizes all that is good and wise in the world. Her quirkly, yet loveable lifestyle helps Cassandra to grow into a mature little lady. The relationships between the people in the town and the scattered family and friends blend in such a realistic way. The story reads a lot like you are reading Cassandra's journal/thoughts. The way she describes the world and people around her makes you see the world from the eyes of a 12 year old going from disallusioned, to confused, to joyous and peaceful. I feel in love with this book.
You will not be disappointed in this story. It is a blessing.
