Wasn't sure what to expect when I started this book but can honestly say I throughly enjoyed the read! A few minor typing errors here and there but a fantastic balance of humour, heartache and suspense that overshadow these. Great concept, touching storyline and brilliant characters - Toby being a particular favourite of mine that since finishing the book I actually miss! I would strongly recommend this book, you won't be disappointed - I certainly wasn't and will look out for future releases from this author!

Initially I was not sure, I thought a boys book for avid readers, but having given it a couple more pages I was immersed, thankfully not in Black mud! but a wonderful new world.
My only criticism, though I like the character, Toby's 'banter' in the style of an 'Essex' wide boy well versed with modern Western/UK parlance was distracting and shattered the illusion of a lost land with no contact with our mundane world. Similarly other similes and descriptive prose from or about other characters felt like a play accidentally breaking the forth wall, an actor dropping his characters mask.
These few slips aside I really enjoyed the adventure and would put this down to a tighter edit! (as too with Hungry cats having feasted on Bats? just add that a Bat wont fill a big cat! ( Not a spoiler I assure you).
I wish I had a son to read it to, Shrek style some of the adult humour going over his head, a great chance to play with voices and imagine him enjoying rereading it for himself as a teenager.
Would I recommend it, YES give it 2 chapters stick with it, and as with the best Hollywood adventure film suspend your disbelief from time to time. Well done Christian, I look forward to the next adventure, and I've recommended it to my horror loving daughter, hopping to convert her!

I loved this book! Great characters and storyline and couldn't wait to hear what happened next. Maybe a tiny bit gory in places for very young ones... when's the next one Allcorn?

I have just finished reading the first work of this author. I couldn't put it down. It's a lovely magical link between children's and adult fantasy. The haracters make you laugh and then cry. Is there a sequel as I want to know what happens to Bunyan and friends next.
