4.0 out of 5 stars 1,673 ratings

Amy Winthrow is shocked when her grandmother dies—not because Elizabeth Hathaway’s death is unexpected but because her existence had always been hidden. Ever-inquisitive and prone to letting her imagination get the best of her, Amy embarks upon a journey with an unlikely friend to unravel the mysteries of the elusive Lizzie Hathaway. As she follows the trail of broken dreams and promises of her grandmother’s life, Amy finds herself on a path of accidental self-discovery—a path that she chases all the way to Paris where Lizzie’s story ends and Amy’s begins.

I am very upset sitting at in a cafe and I have just finished this book. Once in a while you find a book that you just can't put down and when it finishes you want more. Fantastic book for those of us who love layers of family history in their books. Definitely one to re-read

An usual story - part romance, part family secret. The characters were interesting and grew on me as I read on. I dared not pick it up at lunchtime, in case I missed my afternoon appointments!

I read this book because I expected it to be an absorbing mystery, however, I found it to be corny and boring. I only read it right through because I don't like leaving a book in the middle but skipped through large passages of it, particularly the letters. I can only assume that the people who wrote the reviews that all said they couldn't put it down are the author's family and friends. I'm just glad I didn't pay for this book.

I couldn't put this book down. Once I started I just had to find out what had happened to this group of people. I loved that Will just took a leap of faith and because of that Amy was able to look for her dream and find some answers on the way. Well worth a read

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring story of self discovery - could not put it down!!

Sometimes you find great literature; sometimes great literature finds you. Any lovers of literature out there MUST read this book! It is appropriate and relatable to bookworms middle-school-aged and beyond. To categorize it as just a mystery, adventure or love story would be misleading as it has all of these elements and more. The quality I enjoyed most about Chasing Paris was the authenticity of the characters and the relationships between them. Jen Carter masterfully uses these characters to illustrate the classic theme that one's true passion can not be denied. Along the way the reader feels the raw emotions along with Amy Winthrow (the main character) as she explores the sometimes tragic, sometimes honorable beginnings of her own existence. The journey reveals the origins of Amy's strong personality and mirrors the difficult decisions she is facing in her personal life. Several allusions and references are made to classic literature which allows the reader to enjoy the story on a whole different level. From the perspective of a high school teacher, I would recommend using this book for a school book club or independent reading assignment. It is truly a sensational read!

I absolutely adored this story. It held my attention from the very beginning, and kept it through to the end. I found myself stowing away in corners of my house trying to get in another chapter, while my children ran a muck and destroyed the place.
I would definitely recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A delightful story

When 23 year old Amy & her sister receive a letter informing them of an inheritance left to them by their recently deceased maternal grandmother, they are shocked because this woman is not who they thought was their grandmother. Instead, she is the sister of the woman who they have always known as their grandmother. Amy decides to investigate her family history but it is proven difficult because neither her mother or her supposed grandmother will tell her anything.

At the same time, Will is graduating from UCLA and has come into possession of a book with personal writings in the margins. He decides to find out whose book it is and return it to her. He discovers it belongs to a woman named Amy and their worlds come together as he helps and encourages her in her quest to know more about her grandmother.

The story is told in an engaging and interesting way leading the reader on expectantly from page to page. You can't help but like Amy & Will and hope for more for them. However, Amy has a serious boyfriend and Will is not about to come between them.

The story is mostly about Amy's real grandmother and her life but also about Amy discovering who she is and what she wants out of life. It is in one way, not really a love sorry, but in other ways it is all about a love story.
