SILENCED (Ryan-Hunter Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 2,149 ratings

SILENCED A Ryan—Hunter Mystery Thriller She was digging into a past that was best left buried. A trained killer is stalking those with the secret and those trying to uncover it. Early morning along the water’s edge he strikes like a jungle cat from the shadows. The dead woman is silenced. But is she? The investigation, already fraught with twists and turns, is thrown into chaos when her hidden life with the CIA is discovered. Criminology Professor Marin Ryan and John Hunter follow a loose thread that breaks the case wide open only to find that now they know too much. John and Marin are reunited after seven years when they dock their boats alongside each other. Their mutual love of the sea nudges them into rekindled love. To make it more interesting, the Blue Water Marina proves to be a haven for wonderfully weird types; a lovable movie star with his old fishing boat that reminds him of his humbler beginnings; a young surgeon with a secret of his own; and let’s not forget Bailey, the beagle

Having previously read another book in this series Murder on the Isle of Capri, Italy (Ryan-Hunter Mysteries) I was sufficiently impressed by it to read this, the first of the series. The early chapters are very different from the beginning of the later book as the characters are described and the relationships between them are set up, consequently it takes a while for the action to get under way. Even after the first murder has taken place, there is a hiatus as the various elements which will come to underpin this and future stories are laid in place. These foundations are the essential framework to the partnership of John and Marin.
Once the investigation gets under way, there are many surprises in store for the reader as we learn more about the background of the main characters. Marin and John cannot be taken at face value as they both have secret pasts which they are not at liberty to talk about; they even surprise each other. The tension builds throughout this book until it becomes quite breathtaking at times. The only thing we know about the killer is his name - if in fact that is his name, and that he was instructed to do what he did, we don't know who instructed him or why. We are led to believe that he is good at what he does, but is he as good as he thinks he is? Three lives depend on him not being quite perfect, and crucially, on people working together as a cohesive team, despite the instructions to the contrary from various departments of law enforcement - thank goodness for a maverick DA. The high tension is at times, lightened by moments of mirth which made me chuckle

Having spent most of a relaxing Sunday reading it, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would readily recommend it.

Tjis is the first book I have read by these authors and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters came alive very quickly and their personalities were defined very soon into the story. Didn't mean they didn't have secrets though! Fast paced, believable, detailed and very, very readable. Would thoroughly recommend. Will be looking for more stories by these two.

I became thoroughly engrossed in this world of computer hackers, billionaire yachtsmen and feisty, capable women. I like the way there are strong female and male characters. I am hooked on these stories. I only started reading these on holiday and am already on book 4.

if you like to watch NCIS and Covert Affairs, you'll enjoy this read. it starts of a bit slow, but once it gets going is a great read that you want to keep reading until you get to the end. Do Cameron and Marin get the bad guy? Does Marin end up in a relationship with John? what were their back stories? the first of a series of books - can't wait to read the next one.

It’s an action thriller like nothing I have read and I have read thousands of books and hundreds in the same genre. It features plenty of violence but none of the gratuitous gore, foul language, and sex so many books of this type ruin their storyline with.

The good characters are real heroes while the bad are as cold hearted as they come. This book is a winner and I will continue to read the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A WELL WRITTEN, ALBEIT CONVOLUTED BUT EASY TO FOLLOW, ASSASSIN TYPE YARN THAT GRABS YOU AND JUST WON'T LET GO.

Needless to say I really enjoyed this stand alone novel. Each character helped in their own expert or inept way to make this a great read. Even John Hunter, our main hero, who has a great brain for computors but had never fired a gun, finally does, and we now know why he hadn't before. Prof. Marin Ryan, John's great love from college days, on the other hand is ex-FBI, smart and able, and as the story unfolds, we come to understand the initial clandestine murder victim should have been her. And I'm not giving anything away here. If you like murder, mayhem, Navy Seals, yachts, CIA, FBI, Harbour Police, Cops, and a really well done exciting yarn, then you've hit paydirt here. Best of all the price is exceptional - looks like a good and promising series to follow.
