The BIG book of Paper Beads Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 139 ratings

Revised November 2018

This really is the BIG book of paper beading. It was designed with the beginner in mind but there's plenty to keep even an experienced beader interested! The wrapping method taught primarily is designed by the Author and is what she teaches in her classes. The paper beads she makes are made to be durable, wearable pieces of art- and YOU can make them too!

It covers a History of paper beads, Paper Ed. 101, Bead board and why that's important, basic beads and shapes: oval, round, cylinder, cone and hourglass. Now let's step it up a notch: it covers simple techniques that make your beads a work of art and moves it into some shapes that are designed exclusively by the Author: two tone, double cuff and flat beads. WAIT! What about those amazing beads coming out of Africa and the Philippines? Yes- those are in there too! As well as so much more!

But the most important part? This is a fun and easy craft that doesn't need any fancy tools or expensive materials. Great for all ages
Due to its large file size, this book may take longer to download

Kimmie grew up mostly in Alaska and in Northern California. As the only child of a single mother, she learned early on how to be very creative within a limited budget. She was brought up with the attitude that “if you can read, you can learn anything.” She began drawing at the wise old age of two (her first piece was entitled “Smiling Snake,” a portrait fashioned with ink and white paper that her mother has kept to this day). In 2008, after a conversation with a coworker and professional artist concerning the soothing effect painting has on stress, Kimmie picked up a brush, and in her characteristic self-taught manner embarked on an exploration of painting. Her abstracts and character studies (often of animals) are full of vibrant color and reflect the often whimsical personality of the subject and the artist.

While she has always crafted as a hobby, when paper bead making piqued her interest, a new creative endeavor was born. She especially loved the idea of recycling cast-off magazines and paper goods into upcycled, chic, and functional accessories and jewelry. A self-described “paperholic,” Kimmie’s love for paper bead making has inspired unique techniques and creations within the paper bead making community. She finds great joy in teaching others how to make paper bead creations through online tutorials and at local shops, and continues to discover new uses for this historical craft. She currently resides in Oregon with her husband, Darrell, and their five kitties, Annabelle, Itty Bitty Boo, Jaycee (a.k.a. Slash), Velvet, and Simon.

I had this book in my free kindle some years back, now I seem to have lost the free kindle and unable to get it back. Never the less I was always wanting this book in paper book form, for my self it is just more convenient. I do not do kindle as I like a real book, only did it for this book as it was the only option, paying for kindle does not make sense since it would be for only one item. I enjoyed this while I had it. I do highly recommend this to anyone interested in this art form, it is fun, unique, and the items you can make or to use these on are only limited by you, and you are up-cycling and keeping paper out of landfills, every little bit adds up to a lot. Please if the author reads this, consider putting out a paper book for the 'paper book" people. If any one knows how to send a direct message to the author, please do so, you will be thanked every time someone gets it.

I was disappointed in the book.

My expectations, that came from the cover's image, were that there was going to be instructions for the products [necklaces] shown on the cover.

I'm giving this a four star review although the instructions are so clear and concise it deserves a five star rating...except...the photography is atrocious! I have pretty good eyesight and the tiny little dull colored thumbnails were disturbingly hard to see. If this author wants to really 'knock 'em dead' with this book I have only one suggestion...get a professional photographer to do your photos. Your writing and instructions absolutely sing so you are doing a discredit to yourself by not having photos that show the wonderful work you are writing about. Looking at the photo in the upper right of my screen as I review this only strengthens my belief that better photography is the ONLY thing this book needs to be a best seller!
