Climate Control Kindle Edition

3.9 out of 5 stars 57 ratings

Mark Langham, whilst working for the Weather Research Section at N.A.S.A., developed a satellite-based system capable of calming the extremes of weather by influencing the earth’s magnetic field. He got the idea from the changes in the weather seen when electrically charged particles from solar storms hit the field. He could not however, have foreseen the circumstances which now throw the world’s weather into the turmoil "Climate Control" was created to ease. Mark must now regain control of the system....before it is too late.

I live in Kent in England with my wife and cat.

I was reading a book by a best selling author whilst on holiday, when I found a detail so implausible I said "I could write better than this". My wife responded "go on then".

Climate Control is the result.

I have highly rated this book as a must read, recommended to me by a family member.

From page one I found I could not put down the book and would be impatient and eager to know what the next page/chapter contained.

The storyline I found extremely enjoyable, exciting and easy to follow, with all aspects of the book being described in great depth, with very clear visual descriptions of the scenes, characters, roles and the areas in which they lived/worked. The Author provided very detailed, precise explainations, creating the feeling of being part of the story and creating the feeling of watching the story on the screen.

It is obvious that time had been spent by the Author researching into the locations where the story was set and the specialised equipment being used.

I will be recommending this book to friends as a must read and felt that the ending was an opening for a further book.

    An excellent read!

An interesting concept of weather control continued to its logical conclusion in todays age of terrorism. The story line was sound and parts of it, particularly the storms description, were fully engrossing. Other parts seemed a bit slow at times and suffered due to occasional missed words and some awkward phraseology. It did read as if it would end about three-quarters of the way through, and, although valid, the ending felt as if it had been added on as an afterthought. Nevertheless it was quite enjoyable as a light read.

After reading the blurb about the book, I thought that this would be a good read and it was also free in Kindle format, so there was nothing to lose.
After getting a few chapters in, I found my mind wandering off whilst reading, which is never a good thing.
There is a lot of attention to detail, but somehow it doesn't bring the characters to life or enhance the story, instead it detracts from it and at times it feels like things are meandering off on a tangent.
There are errors in grammar, which had me struggling to make sense of sentences at times, but thankfully not too many.
The storm chapters were too long and drawn out, but still not exciting somehow.
The baddies seem very cliched with very predictable names.
The story line is good, it's just a shame that the author failed to make it a read that drew you in.
I did finish the book to see if things would get more exciting, but sadly they did not.
But one thing to keep in mind is that this is the author's first book, so maybe it is understandable that it is a little rough around the edges.
At the end of the day, it was free and passed a few hours, it just wasn't the exciting thriller that I had hoped for.

My favourite writers include Ian Rankin, John Grisham & Terry Pratchett.
For me, Climate Control is not quite in the same league as their works, but I really enjoyed this book: the plot, narrative and pace made it difficult to put down and I look forward to reading Robert Penfold's next offering.

This book sounded promising when I read the blurb. A satellite system called Climate Control is protecting areas from the worst weather. There is a terrorist attack, a dreadful storm and a high octane finish. However, I found the style of writing curiously clinical and uninspiring. It was very detached, like reading an instruction manual. Dialogue wasn't very convincing; a married couple spoke to each other as though they were addressing a committee. There was a randomness in the use of apostrophes, particularly in plurals and there were several homophones in use.

It's a good idea but I wasn't convinced by the exectution. I would like to have been made to feel involved in the story and to care more about the characters but I found them all rather bland. It strikes my mind but not my heart.

I downloaded this book as a freebie at the weekend, and would have been quite happy had I paid for it. I found it to be well written with no obvious formatting or spelling errors. The plot was interesting and very believable and appeared to have been very well researched. My only complaint, which is something and nothing really, is that some of the characters seemed far too sugary sweet. I will certainly buy more from this author when he publishes.

An interesting and unusual storyline but would have been so much better without the 'wooden' dialogue. The author really needs to work on a more natural conversational flow between the characters.

The Kindle version had a few grammatical errors, particularly with apostrophes, but not enough to spoil the reading experience.

On the whole it had a good plot but was slightly let down by what appears to be the author's inexperience.

    What a timely action thriller!

Coming on the heels of Hurricane Sandy, I was reading this book as the winds blew and the rain came pouring down, wishing it was true and we had such a weather control system.

Mr. Penfold's debut thriller is a good read. Plenty of action, good dialogue and some twists and turns of plot to keep the reader enthralled. It was a bit of a slow start and could have used a bit more action at the beginning to hook the reader. It took a while for me to get into it, but once I did there was no putting it down.

This is a British author who obviously knows New York well from some of his descriptions. His details on the impact of a hurricane hitting New York City, filling subways with water, trees and houses ripped apart, read like they were coming out of today's headlines.

An interesting plot premise where terrorists hijack the Climate Control system and wreak havoc to achieve their ends. The author's scientific descriptions how the system works were absorbing and seemed so real, it made you believe it could actually work.

I look for more good books from this up and coming talented author. Excellent work, Robert.

Climate Control is 31 chapters long and is written by an author from the UK, so some of the terminology might be unfamiliar to Americans. However, I did not feel that this distracted from the story. This author's writing style is not quite as smooth and flowing as some authors, but his ability to tell a story with elaborate detail is unquestionable. There were a couple of typos and grammatical errors, but basically I felt that the writing was good. The suspense is definitely there and the author does an excellent job with character development. I enjoyed the story, the characters and the dramatic ending. For a detailed editorial review, visit The Research Nerd at researchnerd.blogspot.com.

The premise of this book grabbed me and I thought I had a winner. However, the style of writing really put me off. The author went into great detail describing things that were very trivial to the story line. So much so that the book actually got bogged down and boring in spots. I found myself quickly scanning pages just to get to the next part of the main story--that is--the Climate Control satellites and their usage. Five stars for the title and idea--1 star for the writing.

The forces of nature are great servants, once we have them under control, but evil and devastatingly wicked masters when we lose that control. This was n "on the edge of your seat, page turner". Robert Penfold did not disappoint.

I enjoyed reading this book very much and at times found it hard to put down. I like the twists and switching between characters. I think it's amazing this book has so many accurate details of hurricane Sandy but was published several months before it hit.
