TOTALITY: The Great Eclipse Kindle Edition

3.9 out of 5 stars 50 ratings

The Great Eclipse — the most perfect in more than 2000 years. The darkness and the light will be joined in a moment of sublime power.

TOTALITY is the sinister story of the most ancient — and most secret — religious cult still at large in the world today, a story that starts among the power-brokers of Washington and draws the reader back through history — back to the dying days of the Egyptian New Kingdom.

While reporting on the Afghan civil war, Michele Dukes discovers that a US arms conglomerate is selling weapons of hideous cruelty to both sides in the conflict. She returns to Washington determined to expose them and bring them to justice. But, confronted by a conspiracy of silence and secrecy, she is sucked into a living horror, where anyone who tries to help her — anyone who comes close to her — is murdered in bizarre and grotesque circumstances.

Michele’s story intertwines with mysteries stretching back in time, from Imperial Russia on the threshold of the First World War all the way back to a desolate, sand-buried temple in ancient Egypt, tracing genuine total eclipses and real historical mysteries, each one revealing another piece in the story, another clue to the true nature of cult — and the fate which awaits Michele as the Great Eclipse draws near.

Ed Bowie has been writing, using different pen-names, since the early 1980s. He has had a number of bestsellers, including the "Gortek" series of children's space adventures, the Civil War classic "A Captain's Lady" and the Amazon top 100 historical thriller "Totality". He has also written for games, the web and the screen. His work has received numerous awards, including the 2004 International Visual Communications Association Gold Medal.

For the past ten years he's been working on a series of books which combine the pace and excitement of Action and Adventure novels with intelligent storylines and references. The first of these was "Carnival of Hate", the curtain-raiser to his Liberation Trilogy, followed by "Cold War Two" (released in the EEA as "Vinterkrig") which launched his Arctic Trilogy.

Since then he has released "Sommerkrig", his second Arctic adventure, and "Act of Malice", the second Liberation novel.

He has also written a number of adventures in other genres, including the Byzantine fantasy "Mandelman", the Gothic Horror "Natural Predators of Man" and the children's adventure "Orc World".

And, after a more than a decade of picking it up and putting it down, working and re-working, in November 2023 he finally published "Incarnate", the long-awaited sequel to "Totality" — he'd like to thank his readers for their patience...

I read this book many years ago, but it has stayed with me. A string of connected events set over the course of many centuries which do eventually resolve in a complex and pleasing manner. If you enjoyed the da Vinci code, give this one a try. It’s very well written and the author has clearly done a lot of research. Highly recommended.

What a strange tale. I give it 4 stars because it is very well written but the story is so broken up that it is easy to lose track of the main runnung story. There is a lot and I mean a lot, of historical interruption that makes the reader almost forget where the main story is up to. The historical peices are very interesting and it is obvious that they will come together at the end. However, those parts could make a book of their own. I was dissatisfied with the end as it did not answer one or two things I wished to know as it turned into a tale of the Occult.

Discovered this book when Ed Bowie approached me on a train & handed me a slip of paper with Ed Bowie - Totality on it. "This is my first novel..." Being inquisitive, I immediately went on amazon & took a punt for £3.

Thanks Ed, I'm not an avid book reader but thoroughly enjoyed reading this over the weekend I was away. I will certainly look out for any future books you write.

I'm aware this got a lot of good reviews but I'm afraid I didn't think much of it. The story wasn't anything new, main character I found irritating and just a general story with not a great deal to recommend it

If you enjoyed The Da Vinci Code, plus blood and guts and such a complex plot that you have to keep turning the pages to find out how Ed Bowie links all the threads together, you will enjoy "Totality". It is a challenge for history buffs - how much of this is historically accurate and how much is invented - from chapters on pre-Christian human sacrifice to Russia under Gorbachev.
There just couldn't be a happy ending, could there?
