Diagonal Lines - Diagonal lines in a photo are powerful! If you want to denote power and dynamism in your photos, use diagonal lines.
The Rule Of Thirds - The old standby... the rule of thirds is probably the most well known compositional rule. We cover it to be complete. Who knows, maybe this is the first photo book you've read!

About the author

I'm Dan Eitreim and I worked as a professional photographer running my own photo studio for over 20 years. I've never apprenticed or worked for any other photographers. Because of this, I've had to learn and develop my photography skills on my own.
My first attempts were dismal, to say the least... so I studied, practiced and developed my photo skills and along the way I not only learned how to put the "wow" into my photos, but I've also learned how to teach others to do the same!
To that end, I've compiled a 42 volume series of photo training lessons that I've titled: "On Target Photo Training".
I've now started writing novels and have completed my first one: "The Photographer's Apprentice". I'm now at work on my second novel: "The Fortune Teller" and hope to have it finished soon.
I enjoy creating books and expect to be developing more!

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 March 2013This is one of the many books that I have downloaded on kindle, that has been written by Dan Eitreim.
I have no qualms about purchasing any new guides that he will produce, as this one like all his other books, has been a fantastic pocket sized guide that can stay with you on shoot to remain in use at all times, if you so wish.
His explanations are easy to understand and the photographs & diagram's are a further aid.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 May 2013I can recommend this book for beginner and the more advanced photographer. Plenty of straight forward useful advice with clear illustrations. I was given some new ideas, and reminded of some I had forgotten.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 October 2014Good info, easy to read. Well worth it.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 July 2016Whilst the author probably knows his stuff, he has a very amateurish style of writing, for example he starts a paragraph with BTW. OK, I know this means 'by the way' but why not just say it properly? It's a rather lazy style of writing, and I got so frustrated that I was unable to finish the book. As well as that, the pictures used to illustrate the concepts are poor. I know it's cheap, but I'd advise you to spend a bit more and look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Composição de fotografia / Photo composition

5.0 out of 5 stars Using all available elements to better your photo
Good explanations of where to locate your subject when taking photos indoors or outdoors. There are probably a couple dozen different elements that can enhance a photo. Dan explains in easy to understand language and examples what to include or what not to include in your shots. Even an experienced photographer makes mistakes because of distractions, lighting, etc. Dan shows how to eliminate or at least minimize common mistakes. A good read for anyone wanting to better compose their photographs to draw attention to the "star" in them. Highly recommend!

4.0 out of 5 stars Examples of good and bad composition
Good photo composition is what differentiates memorable photographs from forgettable snapshots. I enjoyed this book. It has examples of good compositions and as well as mistakes. The book has a large number of good looking photos to illustrate the concepts.
I did not care for a large amount of cross-promotion at the front of the book. I thought the cross-promotion should have been saved for the end of the book when the readers who liked this book want to see what else they can learn from this author. When this material appears in the front matter, the reader does not know if they will like the book to want to read more books from the same person, so it feels as annoying advertising.
