The Out of Office Girl: Summer comes early with this gorgeous rom-com! Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 2,316 ratings

'I really enjoyed this book, it made me feel sunny and happy' Kate, Me, My Books and I. Banish those winter blues with this fantastic feel-good novel, perfect if you love Mhairi McFarlane, Joanna Bolouri and Cate Woods. Summer is coming!

Alice Roberts is having a rubbish summer. She's terrified of her boss, her career is stalling, and she's just been dumped - by text message. But things are about to change... When her boss Olivia is taken ill, Alice is sent on the work trip of a lifetime: to a villa in Sicily, to edit the autobiography of Hollywood bad boy Luther Carson. But it's not all yachts, nightclubs and Camparis. Luther's arrogant agent Sam wants him to ditch the book. Luther himself is gorgeous, charming and impossible to read. There only seems to be one way to get his attention, and it's not one her boss would approve of. Alice is out of the office, and into deep trouble...

I came across the synopsis for 'The out of office girl' in the back of another book I had read and instantly thought it sounded like a good read, so I came on Amazon and read some of the reviews, which were pretty good so I brought the book for my kindle. I immediately started to warm to Alice's character and got in to the story as soon as I started to read, and once it got to Alice's arrival in Sicily I was hooked and actually read almost half the book on the same day! I know, as previous reviews have said, that the ending is a little predictable, but I liked the fact that there was a twist in what happens with Alice and Luther in Sicily, as from the synopsis you assume Alice and Luther will fall in love etc, and the way things actually played out really kept me wanting to read on at the end of each chapter. Overall I really enjoyed this book and look forward to more from Nicola Doherty.

Definitely a very easy read, a light, fun and romantic summer book. I read this in the space of one day and found it the perfect antedote to autumn in London.

The plot revolves around assistant editor Alice who is chosen by her publishing house to go out Sicily to help prompt american actor Luther Carson who she is very attracted to as a fan, to give his autobiography more detail.
The star is staying in Sicily with his publicist Sam, his current biographer Brian and hanger on Annabelle. Alice arrives determined to make her name by getting what her company needs but soon loses her direction as she becomes distracted by her fellow occupants domestic and personal issues.

The story itself keeps you turning pages, but I loved all the details of Alice's shopping trips and visits to the villas pool. This book feels sunny and takes the reader on a fun and colourful break to beautiful Italy.

Perfect for a break from life and I would love to watch this as a film.

I absolutely loved this book & couldn't put it down! I downloaded this recently whilst on holiday and managed to finish it in a couple days (which is very quick for me!) I'd say it's the perfect summer rom-com to read whilst by the pool or beach - nice and easy to follow and has a great, funny story line to get lost in. Loved it!

No belly laugh moments so slipped a star for me but I really enjoyed the romance between 2 characters.
Some unbelievable moments but it was also believable, this is due to the way its been written and really transports you into crazy celebrity land.
    Good read

This isn't the best holiday book I've ever read, or even the best chick lit, but it's ok for a few days in the sun. I bought it to go to Sicily which is where it is set, but apart from a few descriptions of the local area, it could be set anywhere. The plot is completely obvious but enjoyable anyway. Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed.

Other than a rather boring title, this book is absolutely amazing! You can see where this book is going, without it being too obvious and cheesy. The development of the plot is really subtle. The scenery of Italy is beautifully written, I could just imagine myself sitting on that veranda overlooking the sea.
The characters are very likeable, even - or especially - the mean agent Sam.

This book is a successful mix of humour, romance, emotions and summer feeling. I'd give this book 10 stars if I could!
