4.0 out of 5 stars 3,157 ratings

"Sweet and enchanting, a joy to read. I absolutely LOVED this story!" 5 stars

After Julie Delgado’s restaurant closes, she temporarily takes over the catering position at the Rose Chalet, a full-service San Francisco wedding venue. She plans to dazzle the bride and groom so the Chalet’s owner will keep her around, but fate has other plans for her when the bride’s brother shows up for the first food tasting.

Andrew Kyle is not only the Cuisine Channel’s Edgy Eats host and chef, but his recent review of Julie’s restaurant was the final nail in its coffin. Once he meets Julie at the Rose Chalet, he’s certain she’s playing it safe. And he wants nothing more than to be the one to break her guarded passions loose.

But despite the undeniable sparks between Julie and Andrew–and the fact that he seems to believe in her when no one else does–can she afford to be taking risks with her cooking, with her career…or with her heart?

Lucy Kevin is the sweet pen-name of New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Bella Andre (who writes the #1 bestselling series about The Sullivans). Lucy Kevin books are fun, flirty and romantic, without the steamy scenes.

What a great read from Lucy. Julie and Andrew they say heat in the kitchen but for these there was smoke without fire at first because these had history bad history, Andrew is a bit smug at first for me by the way he treats Julie but he has his reasons and you find out just what they are later in the book but getting there is great loved reading about them and the rest of the Rose Chalet workers and you see sparks between some of them. Can’t wait to read more about these characters

This is a typical light romance for women, with - as is surprisingly common these days - a cookery theme. In this story, the heroine (Julie) has taken on a temporary job at the Rose Chalet after the closure of her own restaurant; she blames the failure on a negative review by a food critic called Andrew who turns out to be the hero of the book.

Julie and Andrew meet when he visits the Rose Chalet to check what is planned for his brother’s wedding menu. His main criticism of Julie is that her cooking is bland and unadventurous. So after he rejects her best efforts, she decides on a radical new menu for her next clients who - predictably - really wanted something traditional. It’s all rather cliched, and in real life I would assume that people booking a wedding meal would let the caterers know in advance what kind of food they wanted - or didn’t want - rather than leave it entirely up to the caterers to come up with something special.

The romance develops much against Julie’s better judgement, with some unlikely scenes at a TV studio and rather too much introspection on the part of both main characters. Still, I was interested to find out what would happen - or, rather, how the inevitable would happen - and it passed the time pleasantly enough.

My edition was free for the Kindle; however, I have no inclination to buy the other books in the series.

I got through this book in one sitting.

The romantic journey happens quite quickly, you don't get to delve too deeply into who the characters really are but, the story is a fluffy romance so of course that's the case!

It's an enjoyable read if you're into sometimes predictable romances... I'd recommend it.

The Wedding Gift is a good short read. Took me about 2 hours to get through it.

As its a short book there's not a lot of time to get to know the main characters too well. The love story it's based around is a little unbelievable as it all seems to happen in such a short time.

I did like the writing and the story but wished the book could have been longer to let the romance between the main characters build up.

I would buy this authors other books in the series.

I forced myself to finish this book but all the way through I felt as if the author had taken what could have been a pleasant romantic short story and padded it out to excess. I also got the feeling that the author had chosen to make cooking the central theme of the book but didn't know much about it (nor bothered to research it properly). At one point the "hero" was cooking when the "heroine" went for a shower. Some time later she emerged to find he had been making an omelette! He was meant to be a professional chef so i would imagine he should have been able to knock up an omelette in minutes! Also some of the concoctions mentioned seemed strange to say the least. There was a nice little romance in there somewhere but for me it was spoilt by the padding and weird cooking references.

Lucie was being tried out for a new job - preparing a meal for a wedding. unfortunately the person who did the tasting was underwhelmed with the samples. Andrew is a famous chef and food critique and the two have already crossed paths.
This time paths crossing brings an eventual different outcome to the first.
