About the Author

Scientist by day, paranormal romance-urban fantasy author by night, M.L. Ryan has many stories rolling around in her head, and she finally decided to write some of them. She prefers literature that isn't saddled with excruciating symbolism, ponderous dialogue or worldly implications. She also doesn't like plots so reliant on love at first sight that it makes her feel like her head might implode. She lives in Tucson, Arizona with her husband and teenage son, four cats, two dogs and two adopted desert tortoises.

I really enjoyed this book it was different and the story started fairly quickly. The characters were believable and Hailey was quirky and funny. The book progressed well and I was pleased with the ending. It was a slight cliffhanger but the main story was resolved. I immediately bought the second book, which is great too.

I am one of the “customers” who reads the first chapter of a new book, and will either stop there, or carry on reading. Meaning that the first chapter (or even the first page) simply HAS to interest me. I have read all of ‘Special Offers’, enjoyed it (from start to finish), and would recommend it. The characters were believable, the story in itself is unique and fresh and there were many laughs.

I absolutely loved this book from the first page. I know when I am going to enjoy a story if the characters draw me in and I can't wait to see what happens next. The heroine is a feisty, no nonsense, seen it all before divorcee, who hasnt dated in ages. She is in a job that she enjoys but which is the same scenario every day and has a life that is just ticking over. Then she meets our hero! Tall, blonde, blue-eyed and from another dimension. Let the adventure begin!

I hadn't really any preconceived ideas about this book, so went in with an open mind. Have to be honest I was ready to give up after a really short space if time, the book just hadn't hooked me and the writing style did not appeal. However as some one had taken the trouble to write I felt I dhould give it a fair go. Glad I did, enjoyed it in the end and the characters grew on me. Will probably buy the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quintessential bookworm Hailey was spurned by love 3 years ago
Reviewed in the United States on 17 March 2015
Quintessential bookworm Hailey was spurned by love 3 years ago, so decided to delve into her books and enjoys her solitude with her cat Vinnie. This all changes when she decides her very small home has no more room for more bookshelves or books, so opts to finally get a Kindle. To save a few bucks, she gets the version with special offers.

When I first read the description of this book, I thought, ehh, not my usual type of book, but for variety's sake, I'll try it. I did not have high expectations. But as I started reading about Hailey, I very quickly identified with her. She very well could have been me (minus the chinchilla cheese making job)! So with that, I was sucked into the story and loved every word.

Besides the very bookish Hailey, we also have some other amazing characters that make the story just take on a life of its own. To start with, Sebastian, who is for the most part, just a voice throughout the entire book, is intelligent, funny and one tough guy, Alex is smart, handsome, and has a quiet gentleness about him that is appealing.

My only complaint with the book was literally the last page. EVERYTHING in the book was tied up, the bad guys caught, all the wrongs righted, happily ever after. Then you read the last page. The author threw in a non-ending so that she had a place to pick up the story for her next book. All well and good, but it feels more like an afterthought. She could have easily bended it into the last chapter so it didn't leave you thinking "what the heck just happened???"

Despite the shoddy last page, the story was amazing. I loved every second of it and will definitely be reading the next book. Just goes to show ya, give something new a chance because you never know if you will find a new favorite book.

A much better book than I’d expected.
Good characters, a well plotted story, no dues ex machina ending.
    I thoroughly enjoyed it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating concept; well developed and well written

    Special Offers by ML Ryan
Hailey Parrish lived in a one-bedroom guesthouse that was quickly becoming overtaken by her paperback collection. So, in an effort to conserve space, she impulsively purchased a Kindle to help her conserve room. The Kindle included “Special Offers,” meaning she saved money by allowing it to show ads while charging. Hailey was a chinchilla milker, which paid pretty well, but she still didn’t see the point in senselessly wasting money.
When the Kindle finally arrived, she immediately downloaded a free classic book so she could try her new device out; when she prepared to read the book, she felt a strange surge of something akin to static electricity course throughout her body. While she thought this odd, she thought no more of it as she began to read. She felt kind of sick for the next couple of days, but was feeling a bit better by Monday, in time to go back to chinchilla milking.
Shortly thereafter, she began to hear a voice in her head – not HER voice, but a man’s voice. After a rather interesting conversation, Hailey discovered she was playing host to the spirit of a Coursodon man, a person from a magical alternative dimension whose body had been killed, but who had managed to divert his living spirit into her Kindle. The man’s name was Sebastian Kess.
Soon, Sebastian’s friend, Alex, appeared on Hailey’s doorstep. Hailey, Alex, and Sebastian began working to find a way to get Sebastian out of Hailey and back into his own (hopefully salvageable) body.
M.L. Ryan created a story based upon a very fresh and extremely provocative premise. With the introduction of an alternate dimension and modern technology, an amazing adventure was born. The characters were all very interesting, with each possessing very specific personalities. Hailey was an exceptionally brave, snarky, and engrossing character. She rolled with the punches – and there were many.
Sebastian was known as a womanizer, thus it was interesting for him to be stuck in a woman’s body. The descriptions of man’s experiences inside a woman (literally inside and not in a sexual nature) were often amusing, and sometimes enlightening.
Alex was one of those heroes every woman wishes existed in the real world. He was patient, loving, a good friend to both Hailey and Sebastian, a great listener, and loyal to both.
As demonstrated in Special Offers, M.L. Ryan has the ability to create a tale that wraps the reader in wonder. This author has created a story that is funny, touching, sad, and simply enjoyable to read. Special Offers is written in such an enthralling manner that before the reader realizes what happens, all the pages are gone. That is the saddest part of the book – when there are no more pages to turn. On the bright side, there are more books in this series to read.
I rate Special Offers 4 brilliant stars out of 5 stars!
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed within this review are my own.
