There are many genre's of books I enjoy, but when it's escapism I need, it is generally a good thriller or crime novel I look for. Something that grabs my attention, takes me to a very different place to my real world, moves along at a good pace and either keeps me guessing or provides twists and turns.

James Flynn's The Shadow Media fitted the bill very well indeed. I know this is personal preference, but there was a good amount of character introduction, but not too much so that it leaves little to the imagination. Interesting characters, that you can like or dislike as the story builds. It has a good story line that keeps you wanting to turn the page and as one other reviewer says there are occasions when you are pleased a new chapter arrives as you can take a breath.

A very promising first book in my opinion, one that certainly brings Mr Flynn out of the Shadow, and I'm looking forward to the next. In the saturated world of ebooks this is one I would have gladly paid for and felt good value for money - at free... well what can I say except give it a go.

What an excellent thriller by a new writer, but one I'll be watching out for.

This is as good as any story by the usual suspects, with the tension ratcheting up until it's a relief when the chapter changes and the reader finally has time to draw breath. The settings are authentic, the pacing absolutely brilliant and the characters as real as you could desire. The plot twists, turns and falls back on itself, nuanced with multiple possibilities so the reader is unable to anticipate the climax. Very good indeed.

My only criticism, which is all that prevented me from awarding this excellent thriller 5*s, is that it could do with an edit, particularly in the early chapters, to eliminated incorrect usage of some words - 'scolded' didn't fit the context, and one of the characters had 'died hair' instead of 'dyed hair.' There are several of these niggling errors that as a writer myself I could not help noticing, though overall they did not spoil my enjoyment of the book as a whole. With these errors eliminated, I would be prepared to change my rating to 5*s.

Despite the errors, I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series.

sorry but for a supposed mega trained Bourne like superspy, he's rubbish at fighting. The book is well written and has much potential but the plot was a bit flimsy and you don't want the hero to keep getting beat up only to win at the last moment by fluke intervention of someone else.

Shadow of Medea was recommended to me anticipating the near release of James Flynn second novel from the Luke Temple series. I thought I would give it a go and get myself ready for the second book, it never crossed my mind that I would now be waiting for it just like I have waited for the next episode of 24 or Nikita (yes, every girl wanted to be Nikita at some stage in their lives) or any other gripping action based TV series.
Just like a tv show, this book has an exciting rhythm, riveting and suspenseful that makes every page a page turner. This is aided by the scenarios descriptions that makes everything more realistic and by the likability of the main character, a charming man with an admirable intelligence and a past that now and then creeps up and shows his humanity.
I definitely recommend this book to everyone that loves some action-packed stories!
Looking forward to the next one!

Engaging story line with twists and turns throughout. A bit unsure whether to side with Luke when he was killing the good guys, but that moral dilemma for me added to the appeal. Kept me reading and not wanting to put it down. Dare I say it, better than Jack Reacher, which I have read most of. Looking forward the second book. Shame there isn't a series of books to read yet, because after I have read book two i can see I am going to be frustrated. Forgot to mention it was free. I have been disappointed with other free books such as Mari Hannah murder wall, which was very amateurish especially compared to this book which fir me is already up with the best selling authors like Lee Child, even after this first book.

Not my usual genre of book but at such a small price, I thought I would give it a bash.

Unlike a lot of books I have bought I was instantly hooked (too many authors start too slowly or have a style of writing which doesn't sit well with me.)

I now find myself in the situation of eagerly awaiting the sequel in the series (a few sample chapters are included).

As has been said there are parts which are graphic but not overly so. Plot progresses well into a spectacular ending.

The book is short but well worth the purchase.

This is a particularly compelling black ops storyline and Flynn has cast his characters well. It is fast paced with many twists and turns- no quarter is given and none taken. There is betrayal more than once and political intrigue abounds. The stage has been set for the next Luke Temple mission.

I liked the suspense, which started early on and didn't let up until the end. The lead character is appealingly macho and vulnerable at the same time. I plan to read more about Luke Temple.
