4.0 out of 5 stars 442 ratings

Stanley Stickle hates homework and he'll do almost anything to get out of it.

In this, the first short book in the series, Stanley gets a shock when he discovers that every pupil in the school is to be given EXTRA homework in preparation for the BIG TEST. Stanley is appalled at this assault on his human rights and will do just about anything to avoid the extra work. Stanley thinks up a cunning plan, a master plan, the best plan that anyone ever planned...ever. Only it doesn't quite work, so it's on to Plan B... then Plan C...

Oh how my children related to this book. If Stanley Stickle put as much time into doing his homework as he did avoiding it he would be top of the class! How many of us can relate to the homework battles faced by childrena nd parents alike. My reluctant reader certainly related to this story and enjoyed reading it.

Aimed at children, but enjoyed by adults as well, this book is well written and fast moving, lifelike, funny and definately recommended!

I think that This book is good but could have some improvements. It could have more detail at the end but other than that it was good!

This is the book that set my nine year old grandson firmly on the road to independent reading. I downloaded it for him on my Kindle and he was engrossed. Up until then he always needed to read with an adult to enjoy a story, and much preferred to be read to, rather than read independently. He then read "Stanley Stickle does not have a girlfriend" and within days was dragging his parents into Waterstones for David Walliams' books. Just a few months later he was loving Percy Jackson and now has read all The Heroes of Olympus novels. He says "Stanley Stickle made me laugh and want to read more, so I read the next book and now love reading." In the space of just over a year his progress has been phenomenal. So well done, Trevor, you have a real talent for writing for reluctant readers.

This first book from the series was great. It contained all the elements of school kid politics, and how someone like Stanley might try to use it for his benefit to shirk from work. This book made me chuckle a lot, and my oldest daughter (who it was actually meant for), really enjoyed the book too... I DO hope she doesn't get any ideas from Stanley.

What a fun character Stanley is. Are children really this cunning? YES!!!! Whilst probably not in the target age range for this book, I loved it from the first page. Trevor Belshaw has created a character who we all know or have known and will love for years to come. I can't wait to read of more antics from Stanley. The artwork for the story is great too.

Stanley Stickle does everything humanly possible to avoid doing his homework. Author Trevor Forest has tapped his perpetual inner child to come up with some inventive scenarios that only a 10 year old would expect to succeed in getting him out of doing his homework. "Stanley Stickle Hates Homework" is a creative and fun read that will leave you laughing and shaking your head at Stanley's mishaps as he heads full tilt towards disaster just to avoid homework.

This is a cool cleverish book. This review was from a Ten years old. Plus this is an interesting but gross book (lots of kissing - eewwhhh) and if you hate homework this book is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is funny how people, young and old, go to extremes to avoid doing what they should do

“Stanley Stickle Hates Homework” is about an English boy who hates homework so much that although he could have been in the top five students at school, he is now failing. His hatred drives a wedge between him and his sister. He annoys his parents and teachers who worry about him. He looks for all kinds of excuses to not do homework. He even does an arduous activity to make himself sick.
Children will enjoy this tale. They will be able to identify with Stanley, having the same hatred, or knowing kids at school who are like him.
