- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 September 2016An unusual type of thriller, a young woman (Alex) is recruited to a secretive firm called 'The Agency' who specialise in solving all manner of problems for businesses, from sabotage to incompetency, and they do this by getting one of their staff recruited by the firm having problems, this then enables them to discover where the problems are.
I am not going to describe any more of the plot here, but suffice it to say that Alex finds herself in very deep water on her first assignment.
There are lots of reasons for thoroughly enjoying this book, the bias towards the techno-thriller genre makes it enjoyable (although of course as time goes by the technology will become more and more passe, but it doesn't suffer too much from that at the time of writing, even though it was written about 5 years ago.)
There are some excellent character descriptions (some make you want to punch them!) and some well written action sequences as well. It forms a very stable base upon which the rest of the series can build.
I believe that this book stands comparison with most of the other established thriller writers.
I did receive a free copy of this book in return for this honest review, but have no other connection to the author.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 May 2018Fast paced thriller; it holds the attention throughout.
The plot is a little ridiculous: a company manufacturing lethal weapons is so badly managed that its products are dangerous, while its staff hate being there. The owner has no knowledge, while the regulators and customer (the armed forces) are uninterested.
The subsidiary point of interest is the corporate culture of bullying and intimidation of staff; for which high pay is considered 'compensation' [sic]. Sadly this American originated approach has spread to some parts of Britain. The unintended small episode is when the managing director of our heroes trays the heroine with similar abandonment - but of course all is forgiven.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 July 2014Executive is an intriguing thriller right from the opening that has an unusual style and gets you hooked. Alex is a very engaging main character and we get to see her progress enjoying her work and encounter plenty of challenging pitfalls
The different strands with the corporate and military work together very well, the pacing is just right to keep the reader hooked but with room for surprise. The detail in the setting of the corporate world was particularly well done, proving it is just as good an environment for a thriller as the military or secret services. It all felt very realistic along with that edge of drama.
It's a very enjoyable novel and I look forward to reading more of Ms Wolfe's work.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 December 2015Now don't get me wrong, I enjoyed reading the book and some of the managerial interplay was familiar and I liked Alex the lead character, but it really is necessary to suspend belief virtually from the beginning. How likely is it that a firm (The Agency) which has been heavily involved in sorting out other companies problems has to have the internet and email explained to them? (I assume it's really being explained to the reader who has been absent on the moon for the past decade). Is Alex so important that 'the villain(s)' feel the need to compromise her (or worse)? I don't think so. So a decent enough yarn, written with decent background knowledge of the way HR departments work, but not very likely. Guess that's why they call it fiction.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 August 2014Good read
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 March 2015Intriguing at the outset and well written A different concept for once. Did it keep me turning the pages? It certainly did and the first thing I did upon finishing the book was to search the Kindle shop to see if there were any more in the series. I'm reading Devil's Move right now.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 May 2014Having been in both middle and senior management for 30 years, I found this book to be a fantastic read.
The first part about the Agency, gives readers an opportunity to understand the possible questions to ask about both yourself and a possible client. Superb.
The second part, the Client enables the reader to look at human behavior when given power, coupled with greed. I have personally experienced some of the scenarios given here.
This book is a superb book and parts of it should be used in both Management training and HR training. Brilliant.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 January 2018Really enjoyed this book, a really great thriller. This author was recommend by good reads and I am honestly grateful for the recommendation. The pages turn themselves really not able to put this book down. Can't wait to read the next in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book
The book kept me interested. The explanations of highly technical stuff were clear. The language structure satisfied the English teacher in me, making it a pleasure to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hellfire Madness
The Executive makes an engrossing thriller out of the mergers and acquisitions game. The story harkens back to a great book about nasty technology company takeovers in Japan That was made into a blockbuster movie with Sean Connery called Rising Sun. In that movie as in The Executive, the notion of Business as war prevails. Wolfe's pacing and visual writing combined with detailed research into startup drone companies guarantees a big success. The silver screen would swallow this book whole as I did. Pick it up. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent suspense!
Executive by Leslie Wolfe is a fantastic who-dun-it! Very different from pattern predictable cozy novels, this novel is quick paced with many interconnected threads that keep you turning the pages for “just one more chapter.” The technology aspect is well explained without being tedious or dry. Characters are well developed, conversation adds to the story and details are well described. For anyone who has lived in SoCal, they may find the travel times between locations as noted in the chapter headings a bit idealistic, but that doesn’t deter from the excellent read. For those of us who have lived there, it’s a detail to ponder. 😉
Kudos to author Leslie Wolfe!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as some of his others and tends to pontificate ...
Alex Hoffmann is Wolfe's neew heroine in this new series. Not as good as some of his others and tends to pontificate a lot about his theories on the economy, political scene etc.
