Why Do Fools Fall In Love?: A feel-good romantic comedy about the making of a movie Kindle Edition
When Shelby Roberts is forced to resign from the police, after a job protecting an attention-seeking movie producer goes disastrously wrong, the only work she's offered is to act as a ‘minder’ to British actor Luke McFadden. Still, spending three weeks watching Luke film a costume drama in Bath doesn’t sound too hard.
After all, how much trouble can one actor get into?
A quirky twist on the classic movie, The Bodyguard, Why Do Fools Fall In Love is a feel-good, enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy, with a little bit of a mystery. Perfect for fans of Sarah Morgan, Jill Shalvis, Emily Henry and Beth O'Leary.

About the author

Most of my stories are set in small villages filled with quirky characters. These are partly inspired by the places I’ve lived in over the years, although the characters are straight out of my imagination! I currently live in Wales, close to a famous library and two ruined castles. My husband thinks we moved here by accident.
My first published novel was Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, which was a finalist in Poolbeg’s Write a Bestseller competition. As well as nine novels, I’ve written short stories for women’s magazines such as Take a Break and My Weekly. Before becoming a full-time writer, I worked as an administrative officer for the police.
When I’m not writing, I enjoy visiting big old houses, which I use as inspiration for the houses in my novels, and reading other people’s books when I ought to be writing my own…

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 January 2012I was guided to purchase this book by its high listing in the kindle chart and thought at 77p it was hardly a fortune to lose if it was bad.
BUT it wasn't bad, it was a fabulous read! I am amazed this is only the author's second novel. It was so well mapped out and planned. The story was entertaining and quirky and Shelby was a real gutsy girl (if a little hot tempered) and I found I was routing for her by the end of the first half of the book.
There was a great suspense towards the end of the book and I found myself rapidly reading to see what happened. (I wont spoil it by telling you what happens as I find that so annoying when folk do that)
But 'invest' in this author, she is a very talented lady and I cant wait to read Smoke Gets in Your Eyes. (which I now realise I should have read first! Doh!!)
Happy Reading.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 August 2012Shelby's character is a little complex. Constantly striving to be professional and detached, she often finds herself losing her composure and, as the story goes on, you see Shelby's desire to be loved. Relationships between the actors and crew are delightfully tangled and their history gives real depth to the plot, as does the development of some of these characters. The writing flows easily and carries you along for a fun ride.
Although many readers may find parts of the storyline predictable, there are some genuine surprises and twists that make the book a compelling read. Shelby and Luke's relationship is also a nice element; however, a little more detail would have enhanced it somewhat. Great entertainment and definitely worth a read.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 March 2013I did quite enjoy the story but I don't think the genre of actor/actress stories are my thing, ive tried a few now, and while they're ok, I enjoy other genres better, this was a good story, bit boring here and there, predictable ending with few twists and turns to keep me interested, think I will stick to other genres in future!! Nothing wrong with the book just not my cup of tea!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 May 2020I've really enjoyed reading this book and It's a great storyline. It's set in the film industry, whilst filming on location in Bath.
Louise Marley gets the intrigue and behind the scenes, goings on of the film stars, production company and entourage just right and magnificently intertwines the characters and their vulnerabilities , thus giving the reader a glimpse of behind the scenes from a different perspective in this wonderful storyline.
I look forward to reading more books by this author as I've really enjoyed reading this one.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 May 2013Ever wanted to get lost in a book?
I highly recommend Louise Marley. I have recently discovered her books and I am now making my way through her collection.
She delivers good strong heroines, a believable love interest and then mixes this in with a sub plot twist full of mystery and intrigue to keep you glued to each chapter not wanting to turn off the light and go to bed!
Why do fools fall in love? is set in Bournemouth and she does not disappoint with her description of the surroundings.
my only negative to this story (without giving away the story) is that the heroine of the story, Shelby, is a bodyguard, and ex-police officer and I'd like to think in real life someone like Shelby would be slightly less of a pushover when it came to gorgeous men!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 November 2020I was looking forward to reading ‘Why do fools.....’, especially reading that the author also wrote detective stories and had one book singled out for a prize. How the main character Shelby got into the Tactical Aid Unit in the police force is anybody’s guess. She is so unreliable and silly, perhaps Louisa the author thought it would be nice to have her seem ‘goofy’ and ‘dippy’ to quote Americanisms but it doesn’t come across that way. Apparently she ‘fell in love’, with Ross, a bully, a womaniser and general unlikeable character after 3 days. After falling into bed with him and getting drunk, being sick and never really being on duty as a ‘minder’ to Luke, an actor, she goes from one disaster to another. I wouldn’t have employed her to empty the bins never mind trust her with someone’s life!! When my kindle was on about 32% I wondered if I should bin the book and try to get the few hours I committed to it, back in my life!! Instead, I ploughed on, it was excruciating, I thought it would never end, I tried to skip whole chunks to end the chapters. I really don’t know how some people have given it 5 or 4 stars. I have read first time authors like Eliza J Scott write better stuff. How a so called level headed ex policewoman could be used and dumped by the same bloke several times in the story beggars belief. Anyway, enough said, I know it was a bargain at less than £1 but do yourself a favour and look elsewhere. I am really sorry to give this book one star but just felt I have wasted a few hours I will never get back!!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 July 2013This book is the sort of thing you read on holiday for an easy read. The story is ok but it's obvious at every turn what's going to happen. If you like cheesy romance though this books for you!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 February 2014Shelby Roberts is kicked out of her role as a Tactical Firearms officer when she makes a serious mistake and quits the force. There she has responsibility to take care of the famous actor Luke McFadden as his bodyguard. She gets caught up in some hilarious situations in her role as bodyguard and two romantic interests arise for her also - the georgeous Ross and loveable Luke !

5.0 out of 5 stars Unterhaltsam!
Inhalt:

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Book
I didn't think it was half bad. There were some funny parts and the "mystery" was a bit predictable. It was really focused around the love triangle (square, octagon, maybe?). The timeline helped follow the story but wasn't really necessary. The sex scenes were glossed over for those of you not liking that sort of thing in detail. There were a few minor errors, possibly from converting to ebook but nothing too noticeable. But overall it was a good full length read. I'm willing to try another of her stories.
