Who, What, Where, When, Die (An Avery Shaw Mystery Book 1) Kindle Edition
First, she had to cover a story on a barricaded gunman who likes to dance naked in his window. Second, she's receiving death threats with her morning newspaper. Lastly, and most importantly, her mom keeps vetoing her outfit choices.
It's all in a day's work for this hardworking, if easily distracted, reporter.
Avery Shaw is hot on the trail of the story, even if it means tangling with her hot ex-boyfriend -- the county sheriff -- and the equally hot, if slightly shadier pawnshop owner down the street.
Getting the story is going to be totally worth it -- that is if Avery can survive the week.
Warning: These books are sarcastic and snarky. Read only if you're not easily offended. This is the first book in the Avery Shaw Mystery series.

About the author

When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail.
Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic. - Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 September 2013'Who, What, Where, When, Die' is the story of Avery Shaw as she goes about her daily life as a reporter. She has to get her story, even if it means dealing with her cop ex-boyfriend and hiding that she's getting death threats.
Avery is a fantastic character; she is convincing as a gamer geek who dresses casually in retro movie t-shirts, her family are nuts and she is amusingly sarcastic. She's just so believable and real.
I had expected more of a dark mystery story for some reason but this is very much a light, entertaining novel with a colourful cast of characters. The mystery element was well done but was sort of in the background for most of the book and the focus was more on the development of Avery's character. It wasn't a bad thing, it just hadn't been what I was expecting so I was pleasantly surprised.
I thought the ending suited the personality of the character. I'm not sure how else to explain it without dropping spoilers, but it definitely left me wanting more books about Avery. This is simply a great story with excellent characters, highly recommended!

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 April 2016Well, there were a lot of humorous bits and I loved Jake and to a lesser extent, Eiot but I am sorry to say I didn't think too much of Avery. Will give book 2 a go.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 October 2013This book is the first in a series featuring the misadventures of reporter Avery Shaw as she discovers that someone is trying to kill her.Its funny with a cast of oddball engaging characters not the least of which is
the heroine herself. With a choice of two gorgeous men and a propensity for causing and attracting trouble
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 January 2016I am going through a cosy mystery phase, and this book fitted the bill well. I like the snarky heroine who actually has some soft-hearted endearing qualities, and I like that the 'will I, won't I' with the love triangle was resolved early but still remains as a tantalizing what could have been in the background. My only real complaint is that instead of being applauded for getting the great stories by going out on a limb, her editor is always criticizing her for doing it. I can understand her two hunky protectors doing so, but not her boss.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 June 2014I really enjoyed this book. Avery Shaw is a reporter for her local newspaper and she is also a huge Star Wars fan. I enjoyed the wit and sarcasm Avery used and I liked the fact she wasn't your typical girly girl. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 March 2014Not my usual genre but decided to try it as I enjoyed author's other books. I downloaded second book in series as soon as I had finished it because I enjoyed it so much. Amanda M Lee is definitely one of my favourite authors and her books really help me unwind.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 April 2014A funny story with a lead character who alternately makes you laugh and want to give her a hard slap.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dümmlicher Quatsch
Eine sehr "Ich"-bezogene, Star Wars verrückte Reporterin kann sich zum einen nicht zwischen zwei Männer entscheiden und hat zum anderen nicht genug Hirn um angesichts einer Bedrohungslage Angst zu haben.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, Suspenseful, Entertaining!
Who, What, Where, When, Die by Amanda M. Lee is a fantastic cozy mystery with a fascinating storyline, intriguing plot and a snarky main character. Avery Shaw is a reporter with an attitude that usually leaves those she comes in contact with feelings of hostility. She drives her boss and her mother crazy with her lack of decorum and her decidedly "unchic" fashion choices. The fact is, she doesn't care and is quite happy wth her lazy, carefree lifestyle. As a matter of fact, it gives her a perverse sense of pleasure to incite them into frustrated anger. One morning , Avery received a threat with her morning newspaper. Accustomed to being on the wrong side of everybody she knows or meets, Avery shoves it aside. However, when Avery is nearly rundown in front of the police station, she begins to take it more seriously. Who is trying to kill her?
Who, What, Where,When, Die by Amanda M. Lee is an amusing and entertaining Sleuth mystery. Avery's character is downright funny and her antics kept me in stitches. This is an amazing novel and although it is the first in a series, it reads well as a standalone. It is a well written book with interesting and quirky characters. I am looking forward to meeting them again.
