Sam and Ginger knew each other all their lives. They grew up together. They still lived next door to each other. So why after thirty-some year were they suddenly sneaking around, trying to have an affair? Both were unattached and the timing seemed perfect, at least in Sam's mind. But Ginger was wary, afraid that when the passion had faded—as she was confident it would--Sam would no longer be her friend. Their friendship was more important to her than a quick fling, which seemed to be all Sam was looking for. Fate chose to side with Ginger, preventing Sam from achieving his goal. Ultimately, no match for Sam's perseverance, Fate finally gave up, stepped aside and declared "have at it" but not without throwing some obstacles in their way. Just when it all seemed to be working so well—that deafening thud they heard was the sound of everything falling apart.

Loved this book. Made me smile a lot. Sam is a lovely character solid through and through. A very enjoyable read.

This was a little treat of a read and I polished it off in an evening. It has endearing characters, a nice storyline, laugh-out-loud moments combined with lovely romance and some sexy moments. I wouldn't have been disappointed had it not been a free download and I had paid for it.

Ginger and Sam have grown up together and been best friends for 30 years. She's the local school teacher, he the town sheriff. They've never entertained romance, just friendship.. that is until Sam has a little bit too much wine at a wedding and suggests she spend the night with him, an idea she's not impressed with! I loved them both. Sam is sexy, witty, horny (he happily admits to this) and a master of the double entendre. Ginger is sarcastic, snippy, tries to come across as the prim school teacher and she's afraid of ruining her relationship with her best friend. She's also been burnt and divorced her cheating lying fornicating-anything-that-walks husband.

The banter between them was fabulous, it was full of wit, innuendo and humour and it was a book that made me laugh all the way through. My only minor grumble was the use of their full names at the start of the book; it was a little repetitive, but once I got used to it it was fine. Combine the humour with the sweet heartwarming moments, great secondary characters, Sam's horniness and some steamy moments and you have a book that is definitely worth reading.

This book was a freebie, thankfully.

I'm not normally bothered by grammatical or spelling errors but by the end of the book, I want to hurl my kindle at a wall! It's full of mistakes, words missing and just general errors that a quick proof reading would have picked up on before going to print.

The story is OK. It's a typical love story. I like to read before I fall asleep and like easy going story's. This is definitely that. I'm English so names like 'Ginger Lee' really frustrate me but that's my own fault for picking an American author.

Overall, if you want something simple and pleasant enough to read, this will do the job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Friends become lovers

I really loved this book. I am a big fan of the plot device of old friends falling in love, so this was right up my alley. The dialogue (and inner dialogue) of the characters was clever and amusing. I could hear the voices of the characters in my head as I was reading, as if they were real people that might live just down the road. Made me wish for my own Sheriff Pepper! The writing was well done, with only some minor editing issues that were easily overcome.

    My Review:

Okay, it took me a little bit to get into this book, but once I did, I could not put it down. This is such a fun and fabulous book. Sam and Ginger are best friends and have been so their entire lives. They live next door to each other. They do everything together. They are completely entwined in each other's lives, except when it comes to their love lives. Ginger is a school teacher. Sam is the sheriff. They live in a very small town in Tennessee and are very southern, which I found to be a little annoying at the beginning of the book...the way they interact was almost a too-formal feel for two best friends. But by the time I got into the rhythm of the writing, I liked it.

The best thing about this book is the banter between these two. I really loved it. Sam is ready to jump into this relationship with both feet. He's a guy and admittedly horny (which btw, I LOVE that he uses both of Ginger Lee's names when he's trying to get into her pants.) Ginger has been married and suffered through the painful divorce before. She has no desire to have that happen with her best friend. She sees that as a risk too high, but that doesn't change the fact that she's finding it incredibly hard to resist Sam.

There are some fabulous fun and sexy scenes in this book. Sam is one highly sensual guy and Carol writes about his looks when he's in the mood so incredibly well. There were times when the descriptions of him and the look in his eyes had me shivering just as hard as Ginger Lee. He has this incredible vulnerability to him because he cares so much about what is happening with Ginger. He's told her that it's not that important because he's trying to keep from scaring her away, but he cares... A LOT and that is so sexy on this big tough guy.

I loved the bits that Sam's sister adds to the story. She has a slightly different perspective on these two as she was 12 years older than Ginger and 14 years older than Sam and she sees them both almost as her kids. There were some great scenes with her and from her perspective that were a fabulous addition to the story. Her observances of Sam in the kitchen at the cabin were absolutely hilarious!!

I'll be honest. The first 25% of this book was rating about a B- in my scoring, but the last 75% was amazing. That section of this book by itself would be an easy A+. I took both those things into account when figuring the overall score. If you decide to give these book a chance (and I HIGHLY recommend you do), stick with it. You won't regret it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but writing was a bit irritating

I did not enjoy the fitting style. It placed the book in the 1950's although it was a modern book.
I thought Ginger was 39 the way the book started and it turned out that she wasn't. A very irritants through the story but I did enjoy it somewhat.

Such a good book. I sincerely hate having to write 20 words about a book though. It is either good or not good (in my opinion) and as far as books being reviewed, well you can't really trust the reviewer unless you know them personally, can you? You may think a book is awful and I may think it is wonderful. It all depends.
