What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas...except when it doesn't.
Lexi Titan has mastered the art of pretending everything’s fine. After all, how else could she ignore the fact that her husband is never home, her son barely knows him and the last time she had sex, well, who can remember?

With her life crumbling, the last thing she wants to do is go on a trip, especially back to Vegas; a city full of glitz, excess, and Leo, the man she’s spent the last six years trying to forget. But when her best friend announces she’s getting married, Lexi doesn’t have a choice. Besides, it’s ridiculous to avoid an entire city because of one guy. Even if he is the father of your child.

Face to face with memories of the past and the gorgeous man who started it all, Lexi can no longer deny the truth to anyone, especially Leo. But honesty will come at a price, and Lexi must decide if she’s wiling to take that risk. And what exactly will she tell her husband?

Because as she now knows, NOTHING STAYS IN VEGAS.

What a brilliant book! My first read from Elena Aitken and I will definitely read more from this author.
Not your typical hero is our Leo. An ordinary guy with a disadvantaged background making a career for himself and no, he isn't turning into a tycoon or a super-rich guy like some of the other romances. I constantly found myself turning the pages thinking I will soon discover that he is really the owner of this huge hotel only it isn't happening. He fights his battles and has his faults. Elena managed to develop both the hero Leo and the heroine Lexi into realistic everyday characters with whom the reader can associate. A real emotional rollercoaster this book - Elena gets the reader to experience Lexi and Leo from various points of view. Generally I am not a fan of a romance written in the first person but it works in 'Nothing stays in Vegas'. Lexi's point of view is more pronounced than Leo's so in general you move with Lexi's emotions more.

Elena has build real care into the characters and both hero and heroine makes this a sensual love story of love lost and love found. Beautiful book Elena - I really enjoyed this!

For me this was a mix of mediocre and ok reading. The two different settings were really good and the plot had so much potential.

That said, the main characters annoyed me. Lexi seemed to run hot and cold, and I genuinely couldn’t take to her a lot of the time. Leo seemed to just try to hard. Andrew just struck me as a jerk and I had no sense of him being the ‘good guy’ everyone proclaimed him to be. Uncle Ray was an absolute joy of a character, he seemed like a really nice guy. Nicole just came across as a bit of a bitch, her mood swings were awful.

I think this was mediocre to ok but could have been a little better.

This is such a lovely story. The characters are very well written, Uncle Ray is perfect, and young Ben shows all the innate wisdom that five year olds have before school dilutes it - I thought he was written exceptionally well. Leo and Lexi, well, doesn't everyone dream of having someone have such intense feelings for them after an unexpected meeting?

So well worth reading. Cannot wait to get started on the sequel.

SPOILERS AHEAD...So, the outline of the story had promise. Lexi met, fell in love with Andrew and they married. The one thing they agreed on was "no children" he worked all hours (I think it was financial its never really explained) and she was a teacher so good solid careers. Until years down the line Lexi gets a scare with "I'm late" Andrew feels betrayed, what pours from his mouth is not pretty. From this point onward its a down hill slide and they separate.

Its Lexie's BFF Nicole's birthday and off they go to Vegas for a girlie weekend. Whilst there Lexie catches the eye of Leo an event planner and they find they have similar interests. Their attraction to each other grows and they end up in bed. The following day they agree to spend time together and to meet later in reception. When Leo reaches the in-house showers his best friend Keith tells him he has been trying to reach him, there is the ultimate job on the table and he is his best wing man. He convinces him to give up his day with Lexie. At the main desk he tells the receptionist to give Lexie a message to say sorry, to meet later and to collect his mobile which he left behind.

Lexie gets none of this as the receptionist has her eye on Leo and does what she deems necessary to get rid of the opposition. Leo returns to find no messages and that Lexie and Nicole have left.

Meanwhile Lexie and Nicole arrive back home, the whole time Nicole has been telling Lexie it was a fling, that Leo wouldn't remember her when the sun rose. Little does she know Lexie believed she had met her soulmate and is possibly heartbroken. In the arrivals hall they are confronted with Andrew and a bouquet of flowers, he declares undying love, that he realises how important a baby is and if she'll take him back they can start trying right away.
That night games commence (do not forget she has already done the deed in Vegas bareback too). Its at this point I decided I really didn't like Lexie very much. Not only has she slept with a complete stranger, sans condom, with a man she now believes she was just another notch on his bed post - she then goes home and does the same thing to the pompous prat she stayed married to!

Next...she discovers she is pregnant.....Andrew is standoffish (taps finger on lips hmmmm)......this becomes more obvious over the next five or so years when no other children are forthcoming and Ben (the child) has dark hair and eyes (bit of a dead ringer for Leo!) but she palms him off as Andrews'. But Andrew is a sneaky git who had a vasectomy during their period of separation so he knows for certain that he has a cuckoo in his nest! Lexie is oblivious to all this, just whinges that he doesn't do father son things with him. But she knows her marriage is dead, it was dead before Ben was born - she knows it and she thinks of Leo at times but that is all wishful thinking until a return trip to Vegas for Nicole to get married. Guess who is still in Vegas.....yup, and the sparks fly as they are still hot for each other but Andrew is decidedly suspicious to the point his drunken attempts at being territorial were amusing, he would of done better just peeing on her shoes! Rows abound between Andrew and Lexie he is not only rude but obnoxious, the wedding goes off with not too many hitches and Andrew storms off. Leaving Lexie to Leo and a drive/walk/talk and grope session around town.

They declare their love, tell each other how bad their lives have been, she tells him he has a son! On the return to the hotel to tell Andrew their marriage is over Lexie finds him waiting as her uncle Ray has been hospitalised. Andrew slips her a sleeping tablet to get her onto the plane and home without the gushing.

Leo meanwhile knows nothing of this. When he sees Nicole the following day she tells him a few home truths regarding Lexie, that she had told her they were a fling (she did say sorry) but they had gone because the uncle that raised her was awaiting surgery for a heart bypass.

Leo tracks her down and they talk but she tells him she cannot deal with him and what he might want at the moment. Meanwhile Ray dies, Andrew and Lexie talk which is when she discovers the depth of his deception and he tells her he knew about hers. She leaves with Ben and they go to Uncle Ray's cabin by the lake.

The stench of martyrdom is getting stronger at this point - I am definitely choking on it but I have to finish, the end is in sight.

So Leo takes a leave of absence from the hotel (he is owed as he has never taken a sick day since his drug and alcohol abuse days) and turns up at the Inn by the lake that Nicole told him about.

Long story short they meet on jetty of the cabin. He sees his son in the flesh for the first time, Lexie has already told him he is very lucky as he has two daddies (WTF)

They declare undying love, she tells him that uncle Ray told her not to waste time anymore. She doesn't think he is going to stay long (why would he) so between them and the mountains they have all they need.

Omg.. lexi and her story had me captivated from the start. Talk about being in the situation where she tries to do right by everybody else apart from herself. I loved how this book was writen as it seems like you could understand how she felt and sacrificed so much and for so long. I would 100% recommend reading this heartfelt story.

2.0 out of 5 stars nichts für mich
Reviewed in Germany on 13 November 2012

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing first book by a phenomenal author!
Reviewed in the United States on 15 August 2011
This was another title Twittered by a mutual author/friend. I trust this friend's judgement and when she said it was "must read" I knew I had to read it.

I will admit, the "woman's fiction with a heavy dose of contemporary romance" disclaimer threw me for a minute. Really? Chick lit? Its almost like when they tell us to eat your peas. But, I trust my friend. So, I dug around in my drawers and found my big girl panties.

    I'm glad I did.

Initially, the writing style threw me a bit. Very few authors can pull off a first-person voice and do it well, let alone be able to shift points of views between characters and still keep the readers on the right page. Ms. Aitken did this with amazing fluidity. I'll admit the first time she shifted perspectives I thought, "Whoa, wait... backup." But then I got into her rhythm and it just fit together beautifully.

I will note that I had to open a new box of tissues after finishing my first one while reading this. Most of the time, that would be a hands-down book killer for me; however, this time, it was impossible to put the book down. I read through the tears and now look like a really sick raccoon. But the ending was beyond worth it.

Putting myself in the heroine's role was easier than falling down on a sheet of ice. I was her. This could've been my story. I could relate to how heart-wrenching it is to want your marriage to work. To want a child. To fall in love with someone and walk away because they weren't the "right" thing to do. To wish with everything in you that you'd made different choices. That you'd been able to follow your heart.

Then there was the hero. Could I feel his hurt and ache? Oh yeah. Who hasn't been the one to watch someone walk away before? Who can't relate to the frustration of wanting to be one place and needing to be in another?

Ms. Aitken keeps the readers on the edge of their seats - rooting for the happily ever after (HEA) - and then keeps it just out of reach, drawing us deeper into the confusing mess that would be real life if not for being ink on pages. You're never quite sure if the HEA will emerge or not. The battle between the heroine's heart and her head is so strong, you simply don't know until the end.

Do they get the HEA? I'm not telling. Trust me, even if I did tell, I'd never be able to give the story as much justice as Ms. Aitken did. You really *must* just read the book.

Ms. Aitken has redeemed the category of "chick lit" for me and has rocketed herself up to the top of my "must read authors" list with this wonderful tale of love, motherhood, family, and real life.

Ms. Aitkens gets 5/5 Super Writing Stars for "Nothing Stays in Vegas" She changed my view on the genre - never an easy task, but this time I'm glad you could.

I encourage everyone to take a moment and stop by Ms. Aitken's website [...] and let her know you picked up her book and what you thought of it. (*pssst* She's very cool and you'll find lots of great gems over on her site. I promise!)

The story line is good, but I skipped some of the (great) descriptions of Los Vegas because I wanted to know what happened next! This book will keep readers turning pages until the end. It was nice to see an author resist the temptation to finish the novel with a random chapter that is meant to make readers want to read the next story.

Since "Nothing Stays in Vegas" already has over 100 reviews, it is probably a waste of time for me to give any sort of summary so I'll just say what I liked and didn't like about the book.

I liked that I expected it to be a lighthearted, sexy, fun-to-read, amusing and entertaining book with great dialogues and that is exactly what I got. For the most part, I really enjoyed reading this book.

I didn't like three things. These could be considered spoilers and if they do spoil the story for anyone, then I apologize. First, I didn't like that there was absolutely no discussion, either before or after Lexi's one night with Leo, of protection or its lack. I would think condom use would be absolutely necessary for sex with someone you had just met and the fact that there was no mention of possible diseases and birth control was both irresponsible and a personal turn-off. (Lexi could still have gotten pregnant, which was necessary for the plot, if they used a condom.) Second, for Lexi to pretend that her child was her husband's for six years was deceitful and dishonest especially when it was obvious that the relationship between her husband and son was suffering. Third, it is a VERY bad idea to give a child a pet for a present without making sure that the parent(s) has approved the gift ahead of time!

If you don't take this story seriously, you can easily like it as a nice way to pass some time and I would still recommend it for people who like contemporary love stories.
