Tea With Emma (The Teacup Novellas Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.0 out of 5 stars 2,214 ratings

From eight time Amazon All-Star author Diane Moody comes Tea with Emma.

Fresh from a Jane Austen tour in England,
Maddie Cooper returns home to Texas, determined to bring a touch of "Austen to Austin." She dreams of opening an authentic English tea room and, like Austen's Emma, put into practice her self-proclaimed gift as a matchmaker. But an airport mishap with a cranky Englishman gets her off on the wrong foot (quite literally), especially when he moves into the university guest house across the street.

Can Maddie find a love for her unapproachable new neighbor, or has she finally met her match?

What readers are saying about Tea with Emma:

"Every once in a while you come across someone who writes so well, you want to put the book, or kindle down, and start clapping. Bravo to Diane Moody...I'm applauding!"

"I absolutely love the premise of the Teacup Novellas series - a collection of teacups, each with its own story."

"Here is a writer with spunk and a lot of gumption. She tells it like it is really happening now and I am there in the scene with her well-developed characters. It's like it's not even fiction.....it's in real time. I love Diane's writing."

"I LOVE LOVE LOVE Diane's wonderful way of portraying her characters. They come to life and are so very easy to relate to."

"I don't often reread books, but this one I might. It was just a lot of fun."

If you want something light to read in between two books this is it! I found this a great novella to read in a couple of hours. As vintage teacups are all the rage it hit a note with me - I too like vintage teacups!! Story is light-hearted and very enjoyable. Begins with an author with writers block, receives a parcel that triggers the story - think I might get the rest in the series!

The story within a story device works well, based on a story by Jane Austen. A bit more research and attention to detail might have improved it. No English professor would say 'eejit' which is an Irish expression. After more than 30 years of living in England, I have never seen anyone put cream in their tea, it is always milk. There is a 'cream tea', but the cream goes on the scones, not in the tea. The is some diversion in opinion if milk should go in the cup first or last (the Queen is generally considered to put her milk in after the tea) so an English tea would be served with a teapot of tea, an extra jug of hot water, and a jug of milk, so people can prepare it to their own taste. Also found it unlikely that the family home would be large enough and suitable to turn into a tea room. The bonus with this book was the recipes at the end, which I might try. Again, these are American goodies and you would think that they would try to serve English specialties in an English tearoom.

I was looking for a fun quick read and that's exactly what I got. Maddie is obsessed with Jane Austen and thinks she is a bit of a matchmaker, her attempts at pushing people together don't quite go to plan and she ends up pushing her best friend away. I will definitely read the next book of the series.

I enjoyed this book immensely. It was a great idea- the epilogue is about an author with writers block and the main chapters of the novel - the authors new story- is the result of inspiration from a package she receives. The characters were likeable and the story realistic. A great quick romantic read!

Don't often write reviews but am so disappointed loved the original concept but quite frankly I find shoving religion down the readers neck on every page as distasteful as gratuitous sex sexually explicit books come with a caveat why should not religiously explicit ones also

Mi sono fatta fuorviare dal titolo e dalla presentazione. Non è altro che un romanzetto rosa. Deludente e scritto in modo sciatto

. .) - Trotzdem: auf jeden Fall empfehlenswert!

This story is about an author, Lucy, who writes a book, sparked by a tea cup she receives as part of an inheritance from her beloved Aunt Lucille. The main portions of the book is actually a novella Lucy is writing about a woman named Maddie, who is inspired to open a Tea Shop after returning from a trip to England.

What I liked: I enjoyed this book for three major reasons. 1) The main character, Maddie, was cute, outgoing, passionate and exciting, and the supporting characters had interesting personalities as well. Lively characters always make a book come alive in my opinion. 2) The way Ms. Moody integrated the secondary plot into the primary plot was perfect. There was a smooth transition between the first plot and the story plot, and you were actually pleased when Lucy was able to finish her manuscript about Maddie and her opening of the tea room, before her publisher’s deadline. 3) Of course, I loved the romances developing throughout the book.

What I didn’t like: The only thing I would say in a negative way about this story is that the plot was somewhat predictable. I knew from the beginning which characters would get together, and how the personalities of the characters would change. But, it was a very small dislike.

The plot of this book changed and transitioned with some twists and turns, and the characters were charming. The recipes at the end were a bonus. I can’t wait to read the second book in the series. Overall, I give this book five stars.

I usually don't like stories-within-a-story. Same here. A whacky romance novel writer needs inspiration, and her aunt's collectors' cups come to the rescue. The story-within is a bad, very bad remake of "Emma" (note the subtle hint in the title...). Very predictable. The heroine is supposed to have "perky Southern charm" but it comes off as merely annoying.
