"I was surprised by how much I really, really liked this book. I have not jumped on the whole "fallen angel" bandwagon, just as I didn't jump on all of the vampire stories that came out after Twilight. This is not your typical fallen angel story. REVIEWS:
"It takes rare talent for a man to write a novel from a male POV and have it published to great critical and commercial acclaim. But it takes a miracle for that same male, or in this case males, to write a novel from the POV of a teenage girl and have it turn out as incredibly as did the new StoneHouse YA by Aaron Patterson and Chris White, AIREL. From the first sentence, I felt compelled to dive into this young woman's story and just as importantly, I felt like I personally knew her, which means I laughed, stressed and cried right along with her. A beautifully written and crafted fiction about teenage innocence, faith, loss and love. A must read for teens and adults alike."
--Vincent Zandri, International Bestselling Author of The Remains, The Innocent, and Concrete Pearl
"I am happy to say that this novel is one of my favorites of its kind. I never thought I could read a novel like this and be so swept away! I am always willing to try new books, but I usually steer clear of this kind of novel. Not anymore! Not when I can be so engrossed into the character's story, like I was with the beautiful AIREL, that before I know, it's over. I kept turning the pages , wanting to, no-NEEDING, to know what was going to happen next."
--Molly Edwards, Willow Spring, NC

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 October 2011This was a great read, all characters were very interesting, the story has elements of love in all forms of relationship. It was almost two stories adding up to one. Loved the suspense and action. Characters were well written, and just left enough left to the imagination to add to a twist at the end. I cannot wait to see how the story developes in the sequel, there is great scope for great character development as well some great twists and turns! Leaves you on a cliff hanger just wanting more!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 August 2014Good bits and I did want to get to an official ending but a little slow in places and left on a cliff hanger, if the box set was a bit cheaper I would probably of bought them.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 August 2014I originally read this well over two years ago before I started reviewing and I loved it, I always intended to continue on and read the whole series but after the first two I kept checking for 'Michael' and eventually forgot. I mention the first time I read this because I loved it and if I'd have reviewed it at the time I would have given 5 stars, I've just downloaded the whole series, which at 77p is incredible value and since it been so long I started at the beginning and I was surprised to discover that I didn't enjoy it anywhere near as much as I'd expected, now you could argue that I knew what was going to happen and yes you'd be right but Airel annoyed me, a lot. I'm sure why this happened this time and not before, I read a lot more these days in fact I read all the time so maybe my tolerance level has changed but I don't remember her irritating me before.
Airel is your average seventeen year old girl, her best friend is Kim and on the whole they're happy but then Airel starts to feel unwell, a gorgeous new boy, Michael starts at school and Airel suspects that she's not normal.
The other part of this book which weaves itself between the modern tale is set in 1250 B.C. in Arabia where Kreios is an angel who found himself in love with a mortal and 'fell' only to lose the woman he loved in childbirth leaving him with a daughter to protect from the evil forces of the Brotherhood.
This all sounds fantastic and I've struggled to understand what didn't really work for me this time and it comes back to Airel, I didn't really feel any real spark or chemistry between her and Michael and some of the decisions she made were 'interesting' at best and that was the problem she's seventeen and 'normal' yet she takes everything on herself. So I liked the 'past' more than the present because I didn't really buy Airel as a real character.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 May 2012I couldnt put this book down. The combination of writers is just magical.
Yes it took a while to get to the point and initially you wonder why you are swept back to 1200 BC... but stay with the book! The story grows and is powerful enough to give you goosebumps.
Well written and just a lovely lovely book!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 August 2014Unfortunately I have to say that I only got half way through this book. Generally I love this genre and have read many other YA fantasy books but use them as light reading, therefore I make sure I don't have high expectations in terms of writing style, as long as there is good story development. Many times I have been pleasantly surprised with certain authors depth of character development and methods of writing that really drive the story line to make it a truly gripping and emotionally charged tale.
The problem with this story is the main characters inner dialogue to herself which makes it such a painful read. Although she initially states she is not like other typical girls her age, how she will live life on her terms and generally mocks her peers as being shallow and cliched, the next page shows her doing exactly the things she despises everyone else for (fawning over a guy she just met, believing after a few superficial conversations - not to mention some visceral reactions she believe means - that she has found true love, then beating herself up over losing her independence the next moment, all the while excusing herself by stating this isn't normally what she is like) makes for a character that is really hard to get behind. I realise the authors' are trying to create a story from the POV of an ultimately insecure girl, experiencing certain feelings for the first time and finding her way in the world (something the target audience can hopefully relate to), however, she ends up coming across as inconsistent, hypocritical and whiny.
I am not a great fan of love at first sight story lines or using supernatural awakenings as being the only reason two characters are drawn to each other, preferring more detailed character interactions and how the events that unfold during the story help define their relationship. Unfortunately I couldn't feel any chemistry from the two main characters.
I actually preferred the flashbacks to 1250 B.C. because the writing style was much easier in its delivery, showing that when the authors weren't concerned with emulating a teenage girl's perspective, it had a much more natural flow.
This book has received many good reviews, so maybe I am overly critical or it's more suited to a different audience than myself, but as it is a rare situation for me not to finish a book I felt the need to write my first ever book review.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 August 2012I read Airel and found the book to be quite a challenge at first, The story jumps into the past and present, and keeps you on your toes. But saying that after the first 2-3 chapters you start to build on the storyline. I loved it and found it a very well written book, with a good story and alot of mistery.. if you love fantasy stories you will love this book.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 May 2012Interesting ideas and certainly a take on the supernatural but I wasnt a 100% taken with this book. The main character just seemed far too accepting of the things that kept happening in her life for me. Also too much focus on her love for Michael from the second of knowing. It just didnt work for me...
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 July 2014this book was free. didnt expect much. you have to really read it though as it switches from now to way back. i will get the next book as once you get to no the characters, you need to no what happens to them. i lauf at this am i just nosey??. well the book is okay for say teens up. its not full of the usual sexual content like a lot of this type of book is. good holiday book freeeee

4.0 out of 5 stars Überraschend guter erster Band!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic story of epic proportions!
(addition to review: Please be careful which editions you purchase. There is 1 Airel book and 1 Michael book that have both part 1&2 (A) and part 3&4 (M). There is only 1 Uriel, so no worries there.)
I originally was interested in this book because I thought it sounded like a good YA paranormal romance type book. I am expanding my book faves from vampires & shifters to also include angels, faeries, mermaids etc. I am so glad because I would have missed a fantastic series here! I THINK EVERYONE SHOULD GIVE THIS SERIES A READ!!! IF YOU ARE SOMEONE WHO LOVES PARANORMALS/ANGELS/CHARACTERS YOU CAN RELATE TO AND STORIES YOU CAN GET LOST IN, THEN THIS IS THE SERIES FOR YOU!!! I was a little leery about the part that says "..it takes a miracle for that same male, or in this case males, to write a novel from the POV of a teenage girl...". That actually made me stop and think a bit, but I came to the conclusion that a lot of books could have that same tag on it, some in reverse of course, so I chose to ignore that part. I started this book and was hooked from the start!!! It follows two storylines - one from 1250 BC and one in present day - that of course come crashing together. I love how it starts reading like a YA novel (almost kind of lighter) and then once you are hooked completely the story starts getting deeper. Since you are already following (& rooting for) Airel, when she starts going through some weird stuff, you are there with her and experiencing it all the same. I find that it also makes it easier to understand why she makes the choices she does. If you were to think about what she is doing out of context, it seems like she is making really odd/bad decisions/choices but since you are already "becoming one" with her, the things she's doing seem to be the right ones. Since I can't say much more without giving away too many spoilers, I will just say BUY THIS BOOK AND THE REST OF THE SERIES AND BE PREPARED TO BE BLOWN AWAY!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Airel
Airel is the type of character I would have loved to have as a high school friend. The thing I loved most about her was her quirky sense of humor. I was shy and backward in high school and someone like Airel would have helped me out of my shell. Why do I say this? As a teacher, I have two very close friends I work with. Both of them are quite a bit like Airel in the humor department. Since working with them, I have come out of my shell quite a bit. Airel has a typical teen life along with her best friend Kim, until... Yes you knew there had to be an "until" in there. Michael Alexander is the new boy at school. Airel has already had one "run in" with him. It is obvious as you read that these two will become a couple. You would think that he would choose the most popular girl in school instead of Airel. His reasons for choosing her becomes clear as the story progresses.
The setting to this story is unique. The reason is that it is actually two stories in one. The first setting is the modern day setting in Boise, Idaho with Airel. Then we venture into 1250 B.C. Arabia and meet Kreios, a fallen angel. Although there are two stories told here they flow together smoothly and all connections are made as needed. The reader doesn't get lost along the way. The suspense is heightened because of this type of story line.
I was surprised by how much I really, really liked this book. I have not jumped on the whole "fallen angel" bandwagon, just as I didn't jump on all of the vampire stories that came out after Twilight. This is not your typical fallen angel story. It is one that has left me breathlessly waiting for the next one in the series. Hurry up please!!! It is also one that I will purchase in physical form as I was sent an e-book from the publisher. I am so glad they contacted me so that I can recommend this to my friends and my students. I have been hearing through the blogosphere that people are in love with the cover so they can't wait to read the book. I actually read the description and accepted the review copy before I saw the gorgeous cover. I am glad that it happened this way. I was doubly blessed with finding a book that was as beautiful on the inside as it was on the outside. This is a must read if you are going to read any book this coming year. I have to say, the two "male" authors captured the essence of a teenage girl quite believably. This is what will sell it not only to teens, but also to adults who love to read YA. Well done!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars horrible book
This is the worst book I have ever read, I was hoping to get some clarification about Airel, instead there was no information no background.
She falls in love with Alexander.. why?
Who is he? a demon ( last page.. seriously)
Why does she get followed.. the guy knows ''what'' she is?
Question mark after question mark.
I didn't like the writing style, im trying my best to explain why I don't like the book, but english is not my native language so excuse me.
its just horrible. Not recommended.
