- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 December 2013This is by a Danish author and I was a bit disappointed she went with American as opposed to English spellings only to read at the end that she now lives in the US so that's why, I imagine !
I liked Rebekka, the reporter in the story who's got a great story as there's a serial killer on the loose. I like her relationship with Sune who she works with and look forward to reading the next in this series that I have downloaded already. Rebekka has a good sense of humour and some remarks made me laugh aloud.
There were some annoying apostrophe mistakes and it was maddening as in some places she used them correctly on the same words and at other times wouldn't which I didn't understand. Parent's and not parents' and other's and not others'.
Some sentences seemed quaint because there seemed to be something lost in translation like "I need time to get back on my legs" where we'd usually say feet or "...while he tried to wring himself out of the chair" where I think wriggle was the word that was needed. Also "Sune was only nineteen when he got him" which should be had.
There were a few words either added or missing in some sentences to like the or to and one sentence missed a couple of words-"...had described as a cold-hearted player of a game where they would beat the living out of kids". It was confusing. There were a few more like this I highlighted but they didn't spoil the book and let's face it, her English is WAY better than my Danish !!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 March 2012This book was amazing, unlike many other books this one gets straight into all the the action and point of the whole story which I liked a lot.
The fact that the song is so well know as is the story behind it really adds to the scary and intense nature of this book because you have the image of Freddy Kruger in your head and that allows you to build up such strong images of the characters and history behind them.
I gave this book 5 stars which it totally deserves. It is a brilliant crime thriller with a bit of romance and of course, mystery. You will never guess who the killer is until it is revealed to you and that is what made me enjoy it so much.
100% recommend this read.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 March 2013Rebekka Franck and her daughter Julie have recently moved back in with her father after fleeing from her husband when he became ausive. She starts working at the local newspaper on the day that the town has their first murder. The team of Franck and Sune, the photographer, soon start looking deeper into the case than the police seem to and it is not long before they believe they are looking for a serial killer.
The book is well written, I thought I had worked it out who the killer was fairly early into the story but was pleased that it was a red herring. The characters develop well throughout the course of the book with more and more coming to light about each of them as the story progresses.
I shall now be downloading the second book onto my kindle to see if it lives up to the first in the series.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 September 2015Absolutely loved it.
This story tells of Rebekka going to live back at home with her dad and daughter, as she left her husband.
She gets a job at the local paper where she meets Sune and Sara her new colleagues.
A rich man is slaughtered and the police can't understand who's done it or why but Rebekka gets the bit between her teeth and throws her all into investigating the murder and letting the public know what's going on.
More murders happen but why????????? She finds a connection but the investigating officer dismisses her which makes her more determined to dig into the backgrounds of a group of boys who went to a boarding school 25 years earlier.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 December 2012I really enjoyed this book from the first page it draws you in. The story was fantastic about long held grudges and you really can't wait until the end to see who the killer is! Really good author. This is the first book I have read by her and would have no hesitation in recommending this!! I am just about to read the next book in the series
Hopefully it will be just as good as this one!!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 January 2013I choose new authors to read very carefully, and with much trepedation, especially when changing genres. I usually read paranormal and fantasy fiction, not having read thrillers in years. After reading several other reviews I thought I'd give this a try, especially as it was a free download, despite some concerns about a book set in Denmark not perhaps having the appeal of one set in America or the UK. I could not have been more wrong. This was very well written, had me hooked from the get go and remained consistently good throughout. I love the relationships between the main characters and found I could relate to them very well. In fact I liked this so much I have since downloaded the next two in the series and am anxiously waiting for book 4. I would recommend this to any thriller fan. Try it and be surprised, I was!

5.0 out of 5 stars And He Will Not Be Deterred
Wow, what an absolute gruesome and horrific portrayal of psychopathic behavior all in the name of revenge!! I think I prefer to pass on a diagnosis in this particular situation which is something I never do and may not be appropriate now but this isn't in a professional arena where a patient's psychological life is dependent upon my label so I'm giving myself permission to just be a reader and a reviewer!! This is the most well thought out avenger plot I think I have ever encountered and I was not kidding when I said he will not be deterred. The avenger stuck to every aspect of the horrible events even after all those years. He even killed his own brother, OMGoodness!! I hate to say this and claim to be in my right mind, but I can surely see how he reached this point of madness, really!! A name change and becoming a policeman was a genius move, but a perfect position to carry out the gruesome murders while being on the inside and having the perfect cover. I'm not sure he even considered it murder but instead felt it was well deserved payback that had to be done. Meanwhile back at the ranch, Rebekkah got the entire story, much to her credit, and her boss backed her up every step of way, much to his credit. But in closing, she almost lost her own daughter in the midst of another whole world she was writing about. I would highly recommend this book to readers who are deeply into this genre as it is very dark and actually much more so than I anticipated in reviewing the information on whether or not I wanted to read this book. I feel I made a good choice other than I got lost in the characters some and their odd names made it a bit more difficult. Still an excellent story line and an excellent author.

2.0 out of 5 stars I had the feeling I had already read it...
But I had not. It reminded me of some of her other series: the setting, the main character, the plot . Too much common ground for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars gory
I have read these books before, but a long time ago. I remember they were well written and I had forgotten the endings. I enjoyed reading them again which shows what a good author and story can be just as exciting the second time around!
