About the author

Conrad Jones is the author of 34 gritty thrillers.
Conrad Jones a 59-year-old Author, living in Trearddur Bay, Anglesey. I am from Tarbock Green, Knowsley, and went to school in Prescot. When I left school, I worked as a market trader before starting a career as a trainee manager with McDonalds Restaurants in 1989. I worked in management at McDonalds Restaurants Ltd from 1989-2002, working my way up to Business Consultant (area manager) in the corporate and franchised departments.
In March 1993 I was managing the Restaurant in Warrington`s Bridge St when two Irish Republican Army bombs exploded directly outside the store, resulting in the death of two young boys and many casualties. Along with hundreds of other people there that day, I was deeply affected by the attack, which led to a long-term interest in the motivation and mindset of criminal gangs. I began to read anything crime-related that I could get my hands on.
I link this experience with the desire to write books on the subject, which came much later due to an unusual set of circumstances. Because of that experience, my early novels follow the adventures of an elite counter-terrorist unit, The Terrorist Task Force, and their leader, John Tankersley, or `Tank`and they are the Soft Target Series, which a reviewer has described as ‘Reacher on steroids’.
I had no intentions of writing until 2007, when I set off on an 11-week tour of the USA. The Day before I boarded the plane, Madeleine Mcann disappeared and all through the holiday I followed the American news reports which had little or no information about her. I didn't realise it at the time, but the terrible kidnap would inspire my book, The Child Taker years later. During that trip, I received news that my house had been burgled and my work van and equipment were stolen. That summer was the year when York and Tewksbury were flooded by a deluge and insurance companies were swamped with claims. They informed me that they couldn't do anything for weeks and that returning home would be a wasted journey.
Rendered unemployed on a beach in Clearwater, Florida, I decided to begin my first book, Soft Target. I have never stopped writing since. I have recently completed my 24th novel, The Journey, something that never would have happened but for that burglary and my experiences in Warrington. In 2019 I reached the 3 million downloads milestone. I am currently writing book number 34.
As far as my favourite series ever, it has to be James Herbert’s, The Rats trilogy. The first book did for me what schoolbooks couldn’t. It fascinated me, triggered my imagination and gave me the hunger to want to read more. I waited years for the second book, The Lair, and Domain, the third book to come out and they were amazing. Domain is one of the best books I have ever read. Here are my novels. They're all linked and be read in any order as they're all standalone.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 December 2016This is a better book than the second one it's got all the action of a fast paced thriller that has become Jones signature and leaves you wanting more as like all his books. It's a pity some reviewer are obsessed with the proofing of his books they can't just get on with the reading perhaps they should try their hand at writing. To have this level of excitement and a great character line-up is a great achievement in its self.Beware his books are highly addictive?
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 February 2011I normally read Goddard, Connelly & Patterson plus several others and I have to say that spelling and grammar aside this author is every much, if not more enjoyable. Some of the big name authors have taken the foot off the gas lately and are relying on reputation. The soft target series have all got excellent plots and story lines told at a good pace. I agree they could be improved by employing a proof reader but that would surely put the price right up, and for under a quid I will be buying more of Conrad's work until I run out of titles and then may start looking at other new authors, all suggestions welcome !

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 May 2019From page one to the end the action continued with characters you could relate to. The storyline was interesting to say the least. From dirty bombs to life saving actions what was on the following pages intrigued and enhanced the plot. All in all this was a recommended read.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 June 2012Having read the first two in this series , i looked forward to reading this one. I can tell you it was even better than the previous two. This book is so well written and this series of books should be made into a movie without doubt. From start to finish this book will have you turning the pages at speed. Conrad Jones is up there as one of the best action writers i have read.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 January 2013Not great but I have read worse. The theme of the story is a bit far fetched in places although in others it is believable that Jews and Palestinians live in each others' pockets as a means of maintaining some sort of order in that troubled place. Fiction but it has shades of what might be true within the story.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 November 2009I have read Tank I and II. I loved these books and would have given them 5 Stars BUT am I the only one to notice that these books are riddled with spelling and grammar mistakes? Also when referring to true events, the details are not correct. This spoiled the books for me as it really annoyed me after a while. My husband and sister both read Tank II which I had taken on holiday and felt the same as I did. This is so unnecessary and should have been rectified. I am reluctant to buy Tank III unless I know it has been properly proof read.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 March 2020Yasser is still out there and is yet again able to cause mayhem no matter where he is. Bombs of radioactive material is heading to various parts of the UK is this to cause devastation to our own or is something more sinister going on.

Very good read

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read
Another fast paced black ops storyline with the same principal characters as in the previous thrillers. This time the hunters are the hunted. There is murder, betrayal, international intrigue and national intelligence overreach. The stage is set for follow-on storylines.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soft Target III Jerusalem (soft target series)
This guy writes good stories, however, a little brutal, if you like that sort of thing - I enjoyed it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Soft Target III
Better than the first two. Strange, every male writer seems to introduce the main character's love interest as as beautiful, intelligent etc. Don't tell me it's another feminist hoop we have to jump through........

1.0 out of 5 stars One Star
poor grammar, misspellings and generally a poor plot.
