Cades Cove: The Curse of Allie Mae: A Supernatural Thriller Novel (Cades Cove Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 2,086 ratings

"Ghost stories don't get any better than this."--J.R. Rain

Buried deep in a ravine in the picturesque Smoky Mountains is a very dark secret.

David Hobbs, vacationing with his wife Miriam, inadvertently stumbles upon a small cloth ‘keepsake’ bag and a broken tooth. A human tooth. Miriam begs David to hand the bag and tooth over to park officials, but he ignores his wife’s pleas and secretly keeps the ‘harmless’ items. The action opens a doorway that had been closed for nearly a hundred years and unleashes hell on earth, or at least hell in the lives of David and Miriam.

Following the brutal murder of his best friend in Denver, and unprovoked attack on his oldest son, David desperately seeks to understand why a mysterious teenage girl has chosen to terrorize him and the males closest to him. To prevent further devastation to his family and end the wanton bloodshed, he returns to the enchanted hills of eastern Tennessee, where a terrible truth awaits discovery... one that forces him to face the consequences for the unpaid sins of his ancestors.

Acclaim for Aiden James:

"The intense writing style of Aiden James kept my eyes glued to the story and the pages seemed to fly by at warp speed. ...Twists, turns, and surprises pop up at random times to keep the reader off balance. It all blends together to create one of the best stories I have read all year."--Detra Fitch, Huntress Reviews for "The Devil's Paradise"

"Aiden James has written a deeply psychological, gripping tale that keeps the readers hooked from page one."--Bookfinds review for "The Forgotten Eden"

"Aiden James writing style flows very easily and I found that "Cades Cove" snowballed into a very gripping tale. Clearly the strengths in the piece were as the spirit's interaction became prevalent with the family... The Indian lore and ceremonies and the flashbacks to Allie Mae's (earthly) demise were very powerful. I think those aspects separated the work from what we've seen before in horror and ghost tales."--Evelyn Klebert, author of "A Ghost of a Chance" and "Dragonflies"

"Aiden James has a keen eye for detail and an uncanny knack for scaring the hell out of me. We are watching a master at work. "The Raven Mocker" is a nearly perfect thriller. Ghost stories don't get any better than this."--J.R. Rain, Bestselling author of the "Vampire for Hire" series

"As with the previous titles I have read by this author, I found the author's writing style to be silky smooth and the main plot line to be extremely creative. The fertile imagination of Aiden James definitely knows what today's readers want to see in their stories."--Detra Fitch, Huntress Reviews for "The Vampires' Last Lover"

I did these stories wrong way round, having already read the 2nd book first, this one filled in the blanks. I do love the story but found the beginning a tad boring and childishly written in some places,I was actually half way through before I made the connection to the previous story I`d read.that said it's a great ghost story.

For the first time in many years I was actually spooked while reading this book, felt as though I was caught up in the story so much. A normal middle class family in Colorado have been going along with their comfortable lives when the parents decide to take a trip away for their anniversary hoping it will reignite the spark that`s dimmed a bit over the years. They return to the town where David grew up, as recommended by a colleague they take a detour to a secluded spot once known as the local Lover`s lane. One innocent mistake changes the course of their lives, and the lives of the people close to them. Without giving too much away I think you need to keep an open mind when reading this and be prepared for the odd shock, the ending leaves it wide open for a follow up, not sure yet whether to get that or leave it a while. This is a great read if you love the supernatural and are interested in history.

One of the best horror stories I have ever read! Starting out as an idyllic romantic break for a married couple whose relationship needs a boost, they get a lot more than they bargained for from their week away.

Stylishly written, it has the same effect as a really good horror film. As well as battling with their own demons, they end up battling against something straight from hell. I have already bought the next book in the series, so I am going to turn down the lights, lock the doors and settle down for the next heart-pumping instalment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Historically Interesting Cautionary Tale

I am a G.R.I.T. (aka "girl raised in the South") and proudly so. I come from Greenville, SC but live in Oconee County off SC Hwy 11. I live and play in what once was Carolina territory, later split into North and South Carolina, respectively creating the last of the "original thirteen colonies". I love history and the paranormal. You have to if you're from here. You can't step without this permeating the very fiber of this area. There's history everywhere, but some hold more than others. The Southeastern parts of America are such. From the mountains to the sea, we have all kinds of paranormal stuff. I am a regular at our beautiful ocean, too. OBVIOUSLY, I travel and enjoy this stuff.

Aiden James name wafted across my screen perusing Kindle Unlimited for a new spooky read August 2019. The title caught my eye because for ten years, twice a year, my husband and I go to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for just us. We stay in cabins and have visited many places there, including Cades Cove. We take in the Great Smokies and stop at many spots named by Mr James. We drive in through Cherokee, NC and the Cherokee reservation. I adore these places. To see and know that others, like Mr James, lovingly depict my neck of the world, the people and their traditions in positive ways makes me prouder than one can imagine. The Appalachian ways, Gullah ways, and such that create the South are to be respected. They, we, and our ways are nothing to be sneered about. And, the writer most definitely was responsible and respectful to us. I was taught as a child to NEVER pick up anything and bring it home with me from places that we visited. You may bring something back you'd rather not want.

The characters are believable and so are their circumstances. I have heard of situations similar to the book happening. It is not a joke. The depiction of just how serious and real this can be was spot on. You do not have to believe in it, but that force is real and knows. It watches. It waits and will not easily be thwarted if it latches onto some poor, unfortunate person. Once evil knows you, you're marked and it doesn't forget. I believe in the supernatural. I am a Christian. There IS God, and there IS Lucifer. I have the ability to know when things are about and it is not fun. For those who stand against such forces and those who were it's victims, it constantly will seek ways to permeate through to reclaim what it wants. It NEVER will stop unless the advices are heeded by the victims. And, sometimes, evil is loosened again and returns as is foreshadowed in the end of book one. This is a factual fiction of sorts, but the reality of the supernatural is real and well done.

The family and people connected to those in the story are forever changed because of someone removing something they ought not. They come out stronger as a family unit and learn true friendships are found in unexpected places and people. I love John Running Deer and Evelyn, his granddaughter.

I am not one given to undue flattery as they are empty platitudes. It seems most people these days feel entitled to be given five stars because the mass populace are so terribly needy, unable to deal with honesty. Honesty builds integrity, which builds character. We thrive in our failures as they teach us where and how we should improve ourselves in whatever we do. I know because I play guitar and I rarely get it right, but stick with it because of my passion for music. I also write. I do not pretend to be better than I am nor do I want others telling me lies to boast my ego. Thank God my parents taught me differently than most others.
