The Genesis Plague: An Ancient Myth, A Deadly Curse, a perfect thriller for fans of Dan Brown Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 1,065 ratings

From the bestselling author of The Sacred Blood comes a new thriller, perfect for fans of Dan Brown.

MESOPOTAMIA, 4004 BC: THE DAWN OF CIVILIZATION

An exotic stranger appears in a small village. Mesmerizing in her beauty and command, she is venerated as a goddess, until she unleashes a horror beyond anything humankind has even known.

IRAQ, PRESENT DAY: THE SUNSET OF CIVILIZATION

A mercenary unit in northern Iraq, led by Sergeant Jason Yaeger, has trapped radical Islam’s most wanted target inside a mysterious cave. An ancient mural in the cave’s opening depicts the brutal beheading of an unknown goddess, yet its twisting tunnels hide a series of high-tech surveillance cameras. When a Marine platoon seeks to control the extraction mission, a threat far more ominous is found lurking beneath the mountains.

Meanwhile, in Boston, Massachusetts, Agent Thomas Flaherty tracks down glamorous archaeologist Brooke Thompson, who he suspects holds some answers to the cave’s ancient mystery. But when she narrowly escapes an assassination attempt, it becomes clear that someone else is determined to keep her quiet; someone intent on using the cave’s deepest secret to bring the Middle East to its knees.

Having never read Michael Byrnes before, I was a little sceptical. However, I found this book one I could certainly not put down. It purports new theories about the dawn of civilsation that contain an unexpected dramatic high at the very end. From a mercenary unit in Northern Iraq to a cult church in Las Vegas and US covert ops in Boston in Boston, you are thrown from one area of operation to another but the flow is so interlinked that it does not deter interest in the whole. A really good read and very well written by a Rutgers Graduate. Like Tom Clancy, Michael Byrnes was also an insurance broker - does that indicate that the inusrance world "endows" its people with a lot of free time? Pause for thought!!! In any event I have now put my Amazon order in for the 2 books I already missed by BYRNES (luckily not in sequence with this one. The Genesis Plague

A fast paced, exciting read. The storyline wasn't too complex and there was a good mix of characters and locations. There could have been a longer back story for the mercenaries but still enjoyable.

I enjoyed this book. The characters were a little larger than life but not sufficiently to spoil the read. Three stars because the story just seemed to run out of steam. Things were moving along nicely when boom the story was wound up. It was almost like the author lost interest and decided just to end the story suddenly. It spoiled things a little

Very technical in places, so while I understand the need to explain I found myself drowning in tech, however, it did not detract from the story, which was fast moving in places and quite suspenseful, may try some more of his stuff.

The plot was well focused and very realistic if not topical. Great storyline with an ending which delivered satisfaction. I was reluctant to read this book because of some of the lower valued comments but having read a couple of Michael Byrnes books recently I decided to go ahead and I'm so pleased I did. Great work :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, Fast Paced Thriller with a Cool Twist

Really enjoyed The Genesis Plague. It's a story set in the troubled Middle East but brings a different perspective to numerous aspects of the story. Whether it's the Kurdish team member, official army v contractors, history of the regions religions, no matter what there is a slant that has you looking at the world through a slightly different lens. Anyway, great story, fast paced, with characters I enjoyed ... Have a look at this one. Easy read and quite satisfying.

Pretty good read. I love the ancient history stuff mixed in. Quite a few editing errors, but that seems to be the norm these days.

A good storyline with multitudes of twists, solid characters and a good dose of historical mysticism I thoroughly enjoyed this read. Fans of Clive Cussler novels would do well to pick this up!

Solid but average writing. In general, I didn't have high expectations and was pleasantly surprised. A typical page turner.
