About the author

Dear Reader I thought you might like to know about me & some of the background to the writing of The Cloak. I was born in the UK and during my childhood I had periods of illness that confined me to bed, so I spent many hours drawing. Those hours spent drawing convinced me that I wanted to be an artist. So after leaving school I was accepted at Stourbridge then Chelsea Art Schools. After that I had exhibitions in London & also became aligned to a start-up art print company which became one of the largest in the world. To see my paintings go to Instagram@jamesghussey. The Cloak I started a few years ago during a difficult time in my life, & the writing of it was cathartic, & if you find my book touches you or you simply find the story enjoyable or helpful, then I would be pleased. I did myself have an African cloak similar to the one described in the book which I would rest under briefly during long working days.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 December 2020I don't usually read fiction, but after two or three chapters I was hooked, I couldn't put this book down. It is written so colourfuly and with a richness that the reader is easily transported back three hundred years. The authors knowledge of painting and indeed the life in Italy at this time shines through. All in all a very enjoyable read and highly recommended, can't wait for the next book.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 December 2020An amble through 18th century Italy through the eyes of Christos, an aspiring painter and artist. A journey of life and the perils of ego and greed. A thought provoking brush with the seven deadly sins that is both insightful and well worth the read.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 May 2021I'm not the worlds biggest reader, but I was gifted this book as random act of kindness and thought that I would give it a try.
I'm so glad I did; as I found myself being absorbed into the story within minutes and transported back in time.
The cloak is rich in tale, beautifully written, with a wealth of detail to match. The character depth, the journey of the story and the quality of writing is so gripping that I found myself unable to put the book down. Truth be known I completed the book within the day.
I can't wait for more from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most magical book I ever read
Luckely I discovered this book, which I thought is really magical. In an alchemist way the main character Christos, the painter transform from a self-centered man through a very difficult time into a humble loving human. It's a fabulous development novel placed in venice, italy in he 17th century. The autor for sure has a lot of knowledge about painting, colours and creating a magical world. I am sure it helps people through hard times to heal. I higlty recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wise and adorable
A friend of mine recommended the book to me. At first the unique cover appealed to me a lot. Simple and beautiful. A nice symbol of the story in the book. I like to paint myself, which is why I found it particularly exciting that old painting techniques from Italy were precisely described. The description of the surroundings made almost realistic images appear in my head. With all of my being I fell into this charming book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big Inspiration
Beauty
The author certainly has a special perception of the world.
Apparently, the cultivation of beauty is what has done it in particular.
Something that is far too rare in our world.
A fighter for the beauty of language, stories and wonderful fantasies.
A Celebration and a pleasure to read the book

Fabulous book created by an author who writes from the heart. I had no preconceptions before I began reading but the topic seemed really interesting. The Cloak is an interesting story loaded with spiritual wisdom. I highly recommend this book to everyone who likes to read philosophical and spiritual literature.
