A commercial plane carrying almost two hundred people crashes into the Atlantic Ocean. Eyewitnesses on a yacht say the flight, bound for the United States from Portugal, was on fire as it fell from the sky. The search is on to find the wreckage. Seventy two hours later, another plane goes missing, American Airlines 44, bound for New York from Paris, France; with terrorism now suspected, the NYPD’s Counter-Terrorism Bureau are asked for their assistance. The scale of the case and the distances involved are factors Sergeant Matt Shepherd’s team have never encountered before.

And it soon becomes clear the five detectives will have to be deployed thousands of miles apart if they’re going to stand a chance of finding out who’s responsible for the attacks.

Alice Vargas and Lisa Marquez, sent to find an air marshal whose record suggests he’s up to more than just flying mission flights. Harry Ledger, dispatched to the American Airlines wreckage site in the Atlantic to see if there are any clues as to how it was brought down. And Sam Archer. Despite an unexpected complication that could affect his capability, Archer is sent somewhere he has never had to investigate a crime before. 35,000 feet up in the sky. As the usually close-knit team find themselves spread out around the world, from Mexico to London, Las Vegas to Paris, the investigation pushes them all to their limit as they face an enemy more intelligent, determined and merciless than any they have faced before. Hundreds of lives have been lost and thousands more are on the line.

One mistake and gravity will do the rest.

An investigation is launched when planes start crashing and there seems to be no reason why. At the same time during Air Marshal training something happens as an after effect to being drowned and dying. At the worse possible moment Sam loses his long time memory. Now when trying to prevent more crashes, is not the time to be off your game. Fortunately a Sam Archer not firing on all cylinders is still better then most men. The team are attacked after being split up and sent around the globe. On his own Sam may need more then Nine Lives to save the day and stop the slaughter. Featuring action from around the globe, Arch reuniting with the ARU, drug cartels and terrorist activity this book was a rollercoaster of a ride from the very beginning. Another brilliant book by Tom Barber, keep it up!

This has to be the best book so far in this series There was so much going on
you hardly had time to think. What a fantastic series and all the character's involved

that makes it seem so real. I'm a nervous person on a plane and after reading this
doesn't help even though it's just a storey. Keep up the excellent work.

Exciting and interesting story line. Could all the things that happen in the book really take place? Jumps from one story line to another and hard to see the connections, eventually it begins to make sense but a little too far fetched and definitely more than 100 pages too long. I’ve read all the Sam Archer books in order, this one just didn’t do it for me but that won’t stop me reading the remainder in the series.

Just read this book for the third time.I thought that whilst waiting for Tom Barbers latest book to be available I would would re-read his entire series again. If you like non stop action and a book that keeps you thinking about the plot and how it's possible then read this! You don't have to start with the first in the series but I would whole heartily recommend it!A quality series from a quality author! Don't wait start reading!

This was the first Sam Archer book I had read and I don't usually come into a series so far in, preferring to read all the earlier books first. However, I liked the sound of this one so gave it a shot.

I really enjoyed it. Sitting on a plane, reading a book about planes crashing isn't for the faint hearted, but I was so engrossed that I didn't care. Loved the characters and it kept me guessing the whole time. I'll probably go back and read the others now before re-reading this one.

I have all the books in this set and they just get better and better. Whilst this was probably the longest book I have ever read, boy was it worth it. I'm usually good at guessing what's going to happen but this had so many twists and turns I didn't have a clue. This has you going from word go to final word. Highly recommend this book to everyone. One of his best.

I have the feeling I'm going to be a lone voice in the rush to perpetuate a five star love-fest for Jump Seat. I have enjoyed all the Sam Archer books up until this one - five stars all. However, big change here. I was over halfway through this mighty tome before Sam made any kind of significant appearance. And I read the books because I like the character. Tom Barber has given Sam a handicap that, right from the beginning, had me wondering how this might affect the story and the way I would feel about it. Well, wonder is a good thing, keeps you reading does it not? Up to a point I would suggest. The fact is, the book is far too long; there is endless exposition and every character's actions are set forth in minute detail. Are these not thrillers? So where were the thrills? There is huge focus on a cast of characters I have little interest in. It seems to me that in broadening the scope, Barber has buried Archer to an extent in minutiae. Frankly, I was a little bored and found myself skipping over pages of irrelevant padding. A decent edit would have helped. Bring back Sam, I say. (I note the Kindle book price has increased in the last week. Probably the five star reviews...)

5.0 out of 5 stars From a Sam Archer books junkie.
Reviewed in the United States on 12 October 2017
Couldn't put the book down! The story started out with a terrorist's bang, and the intrigue and action didn't end for a couple of days and long nights. It really is like taking a ride on a mental thrill ride. The writing is fresh, direct, and energetic. What I especially appreciate is how relevant the Sam Archer series is in today's world of indiscriminate killing of innocent people. It really does feel good to have a hero save the day.
These stories do a really great job of character development. For this book in particular it is important to read Tom's earlier books, as it gives the stories much deeper meaning, as the cast of characters have a deep well of history from which this book draws from. That said, even if you haven't read Nine Lives or Silent Night, you'll probably still tear through the book.
The settings, pace, and plot are all very well crafted.
Very theatric, these books would make a wonderful Netfilx miniseries.
Love the series so much I'm rereading the earlier books!

Hurry please write another before I start to have shakes.

Tom Barber’s imagination seems to be endless. Managing to write totally different scenarios for each book. Each one totally believable.
Sam Archer is once again in the thick of it trying to solve how terrorists are getting explosives onto planes and blowing them up.
Read this book. You won’t be disappointed.

I rarely say this but, oh yes, this book exceeds all expectations and deserves 10 stars! Long (yay), complex, imaginative, thrilling, suspenseful, and fascinating, "Jump Seat" is the best book I've read this year and would make a great motion picture. Though I'm not sure any actor could give justice to the Author, Tom Barber's amazing character, Sam Archer. He has lightening fast physical fighting skills and a keen intellect that allows him to leap over the box, not just think outside it. And, of course, there's his sexy British accent!

The storyline of planes falling out of the sky, a sadistic man determined to get revenge on the world, and the mystery of how he plans to accomplish it all, will keep you enthralled and reading way into the night.
