Broken Grace Kindle Edition
On an icy winter’s day in southwest Michigan, Grace Abbott wakes up as the survivor of a car crash. But she’s left with a traumatic brain injury and a terrifying reality: she can’t remember anything.
Left in the care of her sister, Grace returns to the family’s secluded old farmhouse to recover—but within an hour of her return, the police arrive. Grace’s boyfriend has been murdered. Without any memory, Grace has no alibi.
With suspicion weighing heavily on her and flashes of memory returning, Grace searches for clues to her past. But with every glimpse, her anxiety grows. There is something about the house, her family, her childhood…perhaps the accident isn’t the only reason she can’t remember. Are the dark recesses of her mind hiding something even more sinister and terrifying than she could ever imagine?

Product description
Review
“E.C. Diskin is the best and brightest new mystery writer to come along in a long time. In her powerful second novel Broken Grace, her use of language is deft and skillful—she turns a lovely phrase. Her characters, especially her women, are both real and original. Her story raises intriguing questions about identity, memory, association, trust, and the self on its most essential level. This is not so much a ‘whodunit’ as a ‘whoisit?’” —Peter Ferry, author of Travel Writing and Old Heart
“The tension never relents in this five-star page turner…This is a masterfully crafted story in the best traditions of classical murder mysteries…Every scene adds tension to Grace’s plight and ends at the edge of another emotional cliff, daring the reader to put the book down…If you love a fast-moving mystery that keeps you guessing, Broken Grace is highly recommended.” —Windy City Reviews
“E.C. Diskin is a master at gracefully infusing plot with suspense, riveting her readers from page one. Each chapter takes you deeper and deeper into the cavernous darkness. And just when you think you have a handle on what’s happening, Diskin expertly turns another card, sending us down a completely different path. Much like passing a tragic accident, we can’t help but slow down to gape.” —Coley Sohn, writer and director of Sassy Pants
“On its police procedural merits alone, the novel is excellent. The device of revealing the plot through Grace’s emerging memories, as well as through Bishop and Hackett’s investigation, is genius. E.C. Diskin has a sensitive grasp of human behavior, and great noir chops. Broken Grace is an exceptional thriller with hairpin plot turns and moral complexity.” —The Wiseacre

About the author

E.C. Diskin, a Chicago attorney, jumped into writing fiction with THE GREEN LINE, a legal thriller set in Chicago. After the book landed on various Amazon bestseller lists, she wrote psychological thriller, BROKEN GRACE, another instant Amazon bestseller, that explores the darkness lurking among the serenity of rural southwest Michigan as a young woman, suffering a traumatic brain injury in the wake of a near-fatal car accident, faces murder allegations. Diskin's next, DEPTH OF LIES, is a domestic-suspense thriller filled with sex, lies, and murder in the burbs. Her latest, DESPERATE PATHS, spins a fast-paced tale of crime and judgment in middle America. With every story, Diskin aims to create binge-worthy, just-one-more-chapter reads, because, otherwise, life gets in the way. - Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 October 2018A flowing and well written novel; great use of language. The author includes a few good twists that kept me guessing. I dropped one star as I thought the lead up to the ending went on too much and the ending itself was a little unsatisfactory.
Grace has been involved in a horrific road accident and as a result has completely lost her memory. Her long standing boyfriend has been murdered. Grace moves in with her sister, Lisa, after being released from hospital. She’s on high dose pain killers and other prescription drugs. These render her tired and unable to function.
Bishop and Hackett are the police officers investigating the murder and Grace becomes a prime suspect. As the storyline progresses, Grace begins to remember certain facts both about her past and about the events before the accident.
This is definitely worth a read.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 February 2016I enjoyed this book. It was well written and the characters were well developed. I found it a little predictable though, and guessed the motives of certain people before they were revealed. I was lucky to get it on offer at £1.50 and was happy to pay that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Is it Possible to Rate this Six Stars?
Let's start out by me saying I write for a living. You've got to work hard to impress me. Very hard.
I don't write mystery or romance novels. I'm a syndicated newspaper columnist that produces a home improvement column.
Even though I love the smell of fresh sawdust and hot flux, I enjoy reading mysteries.
Fencing must be an interest of E.C. Diskin because as I was reading the last few pages of Broken Grace I had a huge grin on my face and said out loud, "Touche' ".
Yes, E.C. got me. She threw me the biggest curve ball ever and I swung for it. The ending to this book was the absolute best I've ever come across in the many years I've read mystery books.
I'm not going to bore you with the plot, but I loved how it reminded me of stripping an ear of corn of its leaves. Each time I swiped a page to the left on my Kindle, I was able to see more and more clearly, or I thought I could, the real Grace.
I guarantee you you'll love this book. If you're one that would give it one or two stars, then I'm pretty much sure you're one of the people that would not be satisfied if I drove 1,000 miles to your house and put up crown molding in your family room for free. You'd find fault with something.
Don't you just hate reading those reviews that nit pick a great book to death? But I digress.
Go ahead. Buy this book. If you don't give it FIVE stars - just for the ending alone - then I want you to get in contact with me and I'll give you something that will make you happy. You should be able to easily figure out who I am and how to get in touch with me.
If you love this work of art as much as I did, then I'd love to hear from you as well.
Kudos to you E.C. Diskin. Well done.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Read!
This was such a fantastic read, I could not put down the book. This book is suitable for readers who enjoy reading thrillers, mysteries, the author created such a complex story line and she did an amazing job walking us through this story. I would highly recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining read
This has a rather predictable ending, but I enjoyed reading this book nonetheless. The main character is well written, even if she could be a bit rude to others, which made sense given the situation she’s in. No surprises, but a dark and entertaining read.

4.0 out of 5 stars I would love to read more thrillers like this
Broken Grace opens with the main character, Grace, racing away from something that has her terrified. She views another car behind her in her rear view mirror just before losing control on an icy road and crashing. She wakes up in the hospital with no memory of her past. She is soon informed that her boyfriend was killed the morning of her crash, and detectives are working to find out who is behind the murder.
I would love to read more thrillers like this. Grace is a likable character and you really feel for her as she tries to piece her memories back together as she encounters people from her past. The detectives investigating the case are cliches (but it seems like that is always the case), but the cast of characters overall are well developed and believable.
The action moves along at a steady pace. This is not an edge of your seat thriller, but the story stays on task at all times so I never lost interest in the story at all. The author did a good job of creating characters with just enough reason to want Grace's boyfriend dead to keep the reader guessing all the way through the story (but I'm not good at guessing "whodunit", anyway). Just as I thought the story was wrapping itself up, the twists came that I didn't expect. The ending took a 3.5 star book and made it 4 stars! Excellent story!
